The Lake is a mid-range hotel perched on the banks of the mighty Parakrama reservoir in the heart of Polonnaruwa, just a short stroll from the ancient ruins. The hotel is immersed in tropical greenery which attracts numerous birds and monkeys, and is a peaceful and convenient location from which to explore the ancient ruins of Polonnaruwa. The Lake is one of several hotels across the island that is owned by the Ceylon Hotels Corporation, and offers comfortable accommodation and delicious Sri Lankan food.
The 40 bedrooms are spread across the ground and first floors and all have lake views. Rooms are furnished with twin or double beds and have ensuite bathrooms with h/w showers. In-room facilities include a/c, a satellite TV, an IDD phone, a mini-bar, tea/coffee facilities, and a safety locker. The hotel also offers room service and laundry service. Baby cots and extra beds are available upon request.
Sri Lankan and western cuisine is served in the main restaurant, either as a buffet or a la carte. Alcoholic beverages are available at the bar. There is a swimming pool and children’s pool set in the gardens, edged by the lake. Wi-Fi is available in the lobby area.
The Lake is ideally placed for the ruins of the ancient capital Polonnaruwa. Minneriya National Park, home to large herds of wild elephants, is just 30 minutes away. Sigiriya Rock Fortress and Dambulla Cave Temple are an hour away. The turquoise sea of Passikudah Bay on Sri Lanka's north-east coast is only a 1.5 hour drive.
