Location
Nestled amidst a two acre coconut estate and lush tropical gardens, The Wallawwa, is a new luxurious boutique hotel situated just 15 minutes from the Bandaranaike International Airport. The sandy beaches of Negombo are just 30 minutes away. The location is ideal for those travelling to the Cultural Triangle, hill country and the southern coast. The Wallawwa is easily accessible yet entirely secluded - a luxury private hideaway.
Introduction
A 'wallawwa' is typically an old manor house with architectural features of columns, courtyards and verandahs. The Wallawwa is just that and much more with an interesting history that dates back to the mid 17th century when it was owned by a head chieftain of Galle. This colonial bungalow has been lovingly restored maintaining its old world charm with a blend of luxurious comforts and stylish design. The bedrooms are situated around the central courtyard and pond. There is a restaurant serving Asian fusion cuisine, a tranquil Z spa and a large swimming pool set amidst one of the finest private gardens in Sri Lanka. The Wallawwa is the perfect start, middle or end to any visit to Sri Lanka.

Accommodation
The Wallawwa has 14 bedrooms – 10 Garden Suites and four Wallawwa Bedrooms. All bedrooms boast Balinese four-poster beds, wifi internet access, widescreen satellite TV, and terrazzo-lined en-suite bathrooms with rainshowers. Garden Suites are more spacious and benefit from their own private verandah whilst the Wallawwa Bedrooms are ideal for guests looking for a pre or post flight stopover. Interconnecting rooms are also available upon request.
Facilities
The restaurant is situated on the front verandah overlooking the croquet lawn and serves exquisite Asian Fusion cuisine. Meals are also served in the gardens or in the privacy of your own bedroom. The swimming pool is set amidst the landscaped gardens. The Z Spa with four treatment rooms offers an array of relaxing massages and therapies. There is a Library full of interesting titles on Sri Lankan and International philosophy, politics, culture and heritage. The Wallawwa provides a personalised service with a team of butlers to cater for your every whim.
Excursions
Visit the North West coastal town of Negombo with its sun-kissed beaches, watersports, catamarans and fishing villages. Experience Negombo’s colonial architectural heritage including Portuguese period Catholic churches, ruins of the Dutch Fort and cemetery, and boat rides along centuries old Dutch Canals. Explore the Muthurajawella wetlands situated just 10 minutes from the Wallawwa. These wetlands cover an area of about 6,000 hectares inclusive of the Negombo lagoon. The daily high tide brings in seawater from the ocean into the wetland. Continuous mixing of these two waters over thousands of years, has led to a brackish, integrated coastal ecosystem that is biologically diverse and teeming with life. Numerous species of birds, butterflies and fish, some of which are endemic, are found in this habitat. Crocodiles, monitor lizards, and Sri Lanka’s largest snake – the Python, is also found here.
