The Sri Lanka Travel Specialists
Originally owned by a British governor during the colonial period, this sprawling boutique mansion has a stunning hilltop setting and brings the spirit of the British plantation era. Panelled walls, wooden floors, fireplaces, and old black and white photos tell of a bygone age. Interiors are tastefully furnished with antiques, flowing drapes, and fresh flowers. There are spectacular mountain views from manicured, terraced gardens. On a clear day, even Adam’s Peak can be seen at a distance. Explore the Ottery Estate, Dickoya and the picturesque Castlereagh Reservoir. By dusk, play a game of billiards on the ancient table, and wind down with a drink by the fireplace. A delightful holiday setting.
There are 11 spacious suites - 10 doubles and one single with some that have connecting doors that are ideal for families. Suites have stately names ranging from the Governor’s Suite to the Royal Suite. There is even a Queen’s Suite where the members of the Royal family had once spent a holiday here. Room interiors are spacious and have teak wooden floors and fireplaces, king-size antique beds (some have four-posters) and writing desks. All suites have garden and mountain views. In-room facilities include cable TV, DVD player, electric heaters, and room service. Ensuite bathrooms have colonial style modern fittings and h/w showers.
A stately living room has a fireplace and billiards table at the other, and opens out to terraced gardens. There is also a separate lounge area with a fireplace. The restaurant with wooden panelling has beautiful views of the tea hills. Sri Lankan and western cuisine is served here. Guests can choose from the in-house menu. The chef is also happy to prepare your choice of dishes so, discuss your meal preferences ahead of time. High tea is served in the garden along with scones and home baked cakes. The landscaped garden is a riot of colour with roses, agapanthus, daisies, lilies and plenty of fruit trees. The garden blends seamlessly with the tea estate where tea pluckers work by day. Other hotel facilities include floodlit clay tennis court, badminton, board games, piano, guitar, music system, and wifi.
The Governor’s Mansion, is situated on Ottery Estate in the beautiful tea valley of Dickoya in Sri Lanka’s southern highlands. Dickoya can be accessed via Kitulgala and Ratnapura or Nuwara Eliya.
