Customer Feedback, Awards & Media Reviews

Beautifully restored boutique hotel – we loved the history and setting. Access roads terrible, nice, big rooms. Not the best place for kids, amazing place for a couple.

Wonderful place to start the holiday. Staff very helpful with all the activities.

Refused to stay here. Room not as described. ‘Restaurant’ was tiny and dark – more a fast food café, totally unacceptable! No Sri Lankan food.

Road to the hotel needs to be improved – dangerous! Beautiful place to stay, great location.

Lovely hotel. Poor access road, location is beautiful.

Originally owned by a British governor during the colonial period, this sprawling mansion, caringly refurbished by its new Sri Lankan owners, has quickly won praise for its high standards. Panelled walls, wooden floors, fireplaces, and old black and white photos that tellof a bygone era have all been retained. The interiors are tastefully furnished with antiques, flowing drapes, and fresh flowers from the gardens. The outdoors here is wonderful with terraced gardens and spectacular mountain views. On a clear day, even Adam’s Peak can be seen at a distance. Relax with a cup of fine Ceylon tea on the manicured lawns; explore the Ottery Estate, Dickoya and the picturesque Castelreigh Reservoir. By dusk, play a game of billiards on the century old billiards table, and wind down with a drink by the fireplace. The Suites at Governor’s Mansion are given out on an all-inclusive basis.

There are 11 spacious suites - 10 doubles and one single with some that have connecting doors that are ideal for families. Suites have stately names ranging from the Governor’s Suite to the Royal Suite. There is even a Queen’s Suite where the members of the Royal family had once spent a holiday here.
