Location
Sun House is situated directly opposite its sister property, Dutch House, on a steep, leafy street on the outskirts of Galle. This lavishly-praised boutique property has distant views of the Galle harbour which can be seen through a host of frangipani and hibiscus trees in the garden. Galle is about 120km south of Colombo and driving directly from the airport averages about four-and-a-half hours.
Introduction
Built in the 1861 and tastefully restored at the start of the 21st century, Sun House is a stylish boutique hotel with a relaxed feel. All seven rooms are fitted with cast-iron double beds, en suite bathrooms, air-conditioning (except one) and overhead fans. As with the Dutch House, the décor cultivates an environment that calms and soothes, with the special emphasis here on whiteness, lightness and simplicity. This makes the property particularly alluring for honeymooners, most notably the Cinnamon Suite, which occupies the entire first floor and comes complete with its very own sitting room, library and outdoor bathtub.
