Sri Lanka is a small country but it is tortuously slow to navigate. The average speed for a car is around 35km per hour meaning that even short journeys take a long time. If you want to cut down on transfer times then the best option is to charter a private helicopter. Red Dot is able to organise helicopter transfers around Sri Lanka in association with Deccan Aviation, one of the largest and most experienced helicopter operators in the Asian region. Flights are available only between 7am and 5.30pm.

Deccan Aviation Lanka is the holder of the only helicopter operator¹s license in Sri Lanka. They have been in operation since 2004 and manage a fleet of Bell 206 B3 Jet Ranger helicopters. These are based at Ratmalana Airport, just south of Colombo’s city centre and they can fly direct to the grounds of your hotel (with the exception of restricted areas in the far north and east). Each helicopter can accommodate a maximum of four passengers. The company is a unit of the region’s largest helicopter operator Deccan Aviation India and the parent company of Indian airline Air Deccan. Deccan’s operational crew is highly experienced. They possess a valid Air Operator Certificate issued by the Civil Aviation Authority of Sri Lanka and follow safety procedures which are above the industry standard.

Note that ground waiting charges are $115 per hour (first hour is free), if you are using the helicopter for a short visit or meeting, and that overnight park charges are $345 per night.

Note that the baggage limit is 15kg per passenger so in some cases Red Dot will organise a baggage vehicle to deliver your luggage by road to your hotel. Flights are available between 7.00am and finish at 5:30pm – basically, daylight hours in Sri Lanka. The maximum capacity of the helicopter is four passengers carrying 15kg of baggage. Payment must be paid in advance to confirm the flight and the price – which fluctuates according to market fuel prices. For cancellation, there is a 25 % cancellation charge up to 72 hours before departure time, and between 72 and 24 hours there is a 50 % cancellation charge. Less than 24 hours before scheduled departure "no refund" is possible. However, no cancellation charge will be applicable in case you desire an advancement or postponement of flight, subject to availability of aircraft. Deccan reserves the right to delay, extend, reschedule or cancel a flight for operational reasons - bad weather, VIP movements or other similar situations beyond the immediate control of the carrier.
