Location
Kudakalliya lies on an isolated bay just south of Arugam Bay on the South East coast. Listed as one of ten top surf spots in the world, Arugam Bay is a popular haunt for surfers. The relatively isolated beaches and a simple, laid-back lifestyle away from the main tourist haunts have many devotees. Arugam Bay can be reached along the East coast travelling south from Pasekudah; from the hill country via Ella or from the south coast via Wellawaya.
Introduction
Kudakalliya consists of two unpretentious bungalows set on an untouched slice of beach. The main two-bedroom bungalow opens on to an enclosed garden and the sea beyond. The second smaller bungalow is located at one edge of the property and overlooks the Hada Oya (river) where wild animals including the occasional elephant can be spotted. Simplicity is the key to Kudakalliya's charm. The walls are mud-coated, the floors are polished cement, driftwood has been used for the furniture and the sea breeze provides a natural air-conditioner. Days can be spent wandering on the beach alone, swimming in the clear blue sea or surfing. Kudakalliya is rented on a villa only basis and is given out to two parties at one time. This is an ideal holiday escape for those wanting to be slightly away from the main hotel strip in Arugam Bay.

Accommodation
Main Bungalow: The Main Bungalow can sleep eight. It has direct sea views and consists of two double bedrooms located on the upper floor, of which one has an attached bathroom. The upper floor lounge area has additional single beds where four more guests can be accommodated. A w/c, wash basin, and separate shower on the upper floor are shared by one double room and guests sleeping in the lounge area.

Small Bungalow: The Small Bungalow, which sleeps four, overlooks the Hada Oya and also has sea views from one side. This bungalow consists of two double rooms - one on each floor. Both bedrooms have attached bathrooms with open air h/w showers.
Facilities
Main Bungalow: The upper floor of the Main Bungalow has a large sitting area, balcony and watch tower for taking in the spectacular scenery. The dining room is located on the ground floor.

Small Bungalow: The Small Bungalow has a large verandah overlooking the Hada Oya. Meals are served on this verandah and if you’re lucky, you will spot a wild elephant while having breakfast. There is also a large balcony on the upper floor with wonderful views.

Kudakalliya has two permanent staff. If you wish to eat at the bungalow, you can buy fresh produce from the local market and the cook will prepare tasty Sri Lankan meals. All linen, crockery and cutlery are provided. Guests are welcome to bring their own alcoholic beverages. There are several small beach shack cafes and restaurants in Arugam Bay where you can dine. Surf boards can be rented in town and surfing lessons for beginners can be organised during surfing season from July to August.
Excursions
Arugam Bay is well known for its point breaks including 'Surf Point' that breaks at the headland in front of Arugam Bay which is suitable for body surfing and beginners; Pottuvil Point situated on a deserted beach north of Arugam Bay is more suitable for experienced surfers; and Crocodile Rock another challenging surf point is located right in front of Kudakalliya. Trek to the ancient Kudimbigala Forest Hermitage which is spread over about 4,700 hectares of wilderness. Trek uphill over huge rock boulders, thick forest cover, past ancient meditation caves and temple ruins. Once you reach the peak, visit the small temple and take in the breathtaking views across the Eastern shore. Explore the jungles of Kumana Bird Sanctuary and the Lahugala National Park- home to large herds of elephants.
