Cricket in Sri Lanka

Sri Lanka offers more for cricket tourists than the Caribbean, Australia and South Africa, and at far better value for money. The huge passion of the game in Sri Lanka automatically bequeaths foreign cricketers with VIP status. You will be welcomed warmly everywhere you travel – apart from, perhaps, in the middle as Sri Lanka’s cricketers may be polite but they are also fiercely competitive.

Explore an island with breathtaking scenery, from the beautiful southern beaches to the spectacular tea plantations in the hill-country. There is plenty of culture too: from the ancient ruins of the Cultural Triangle to the many Buddhist Temples dotted around the island. If you want a break from the cricket, visit one of the island’s game parks to see elephants and leopards, or play golf at one of four excellent courses.

One of the other attractions of Sri Lanka as a cricket destination is that you get a chance to play at top-class Test venues, including the likes of Dambulla International Stadium, Asgiriya Stadium in Kandy, Sinhalese Sports Club and Tamil Union in Colombo, and the picturesque Galle International Stadium. Nowhere else in the world is this unique experience available.

Cricket in South India and Malaysia

Community Days

Red Dot works closely with the Foundation of Goodness near Galle. The charity was set up by Kushil Gunasekera in the aftermath of the tsunami, and is championed by Muttiah Muralitharan and supported by cricketers the world over. The village has a cricket pitch at its centre and we encourage touring teams to have a match here. It is a unique way in which your club, university or school can give something back to the island and its people. (More)

Media Reviews & Tour Diaries

In 1997, a loose collection of journalists and club cricketers, based around the Thorner Mexborough CC village club in West Yorkshire, made a first, slightly nervous, visit to Sri Lanka. That they somehow managed to lose all six matches and miss the flight home was told extensively in David Hopps’ book 'We're Right Behind You, Captain!’And those intrigued to find out what happened the first time should read on.
