The Sri Lanka Travel Specialists
Combine Sri Lanka’s rich history, modern-day culture and tea-carpeted central hills with five days relaxation on the pristine beaches of the idyllic Maldives. The short flight from Colombo to Malé allows you to experience the best of both worlds during one holiday. As ever, we are able to tinker with this itinerary if you wish and add an extra night here and there or change the accommodation.
Upon arriving in Sri Lanka, transfer directly to the Cultural Triangle and then rest up after your flight. The next morning, explore the impressive ruins of Polonnaruwa, Sri Lanka’s medieval capital, and the ancient Dambulla Cave Temple with its awe-inspiring ceiling frescos and statues. Begin the following day by climbing to the top of Sigiriya Rock, which is crowned by the ruins of a fortress-palace built by King Kasyapa in the 5th century and offers mesmerising views across the surrounding landscape. In the afternoon, spot elephants in Minneriya National Park.
Today you journey to Sri Lanka's hill capital, the small lakeside city of Kandy. Spend the afternoon exploring the city’s highlights, which include the central markets, Royal Botanical Gardens and the Temple of the Tooth – so named because it houses a tooth relic thought to have belonged to Lord Buddha that has been enshrined in the island for over 1,500 years. Many other activities can be discussed on request, and you may wish to add another night here.
Travel on into Sri Lanka’s tea-growing highlands. We recommend taking the train which still follows the tracks laid down by the British and provides extraordinary views of this enchanting landscape. Temperatures in Sri Lanka's hill country are akin to an early English summer's day, so you can spend these two days walking and cycling through the hills to your heart’s content. Alternatively, visit a tea factory, or simply enjoy the sensational views.
After breakfast, leave for Colombo, Sri Lanka's laid-back capital city. You may wish to go on a city tour in late afternoon, spend an hour or two shopping or perhaps pamper yourself at a spa. In the evening, consider dinner at one of the many restaurants here – our favourite is the wonderful Gallery Café.
Depart early in the morning for your flight to the Maldives and a five-night stay in your preferred Maldives resort. A host of water-based activities are available, plus spa treatments, to make your stay a memorable one.
Lake Lodge, a 12-room boutique hotel in the heart of the cultural triangle, is surrounded by the peaceful gentle hills of Kandalama, and the lake beyond. Accommodation is in six two-storey chalets, with balconies on the upper floor, opening out to picturesque jungle and mountains views
Theva is a uniquely-designed boutique hotel offering luxurious accommodation overlooking the Hantane Mountains in Kandy. The building has been constructed to provide breath-taking mountain views from each and every space in the hotel and the interiors are light and airy and contemporary in design, with a mix of glass, wood and polished cement floors.
Camellia Hills is a modern interpretation of a tea bungalow. Offering accommodation in five ensuite rooms overlooking the majestic Castlereagh reservoir and surrounding tea plantations, the bungalow is great for relaxation and operate on all-inclusive basis.
Galle Face Hotel, originally constructed in the 19th century, incorporates traditional Victorian features with stylish contemporary design. It is an attractive alternative to Colombo’s modern business hotels: the stately wooden panelling and staunchly Victorian rooms are resonant of a bygone age.
Adaaran Select Hudhuran Fushi is a large mid-range island resort situated on its own island on North Malé Atoll. With `Hudhu’ meaning white and `ran’ meaning gold, it is no surprise to discover that this island of white gold is a tropical paradise. The resort is ideal for an active holiday and is a popular destination for water-sports, scuba diving and snorkelling.
