The Sri Lanka Travel Specialists
The Beach House is an idyllic five-bedroom villa situated in private gardens, with direct access to its own stretch of gleaming white sand near the small fishing village of Tangalle, a secluded part of Sri Lanka’s south coast. This Dutch colonial building was once the home of an American artist, Douglas Johnson, and was renovated with the help of the celebrated former Sri Lankan architect, Geoffrey Bawa. Dark colonial furniture is lightened by modern decor, unusual ornaments and Johnson’s pictures. Conde Nast Traveller magazine once nominated The Beach House in its list of the world’s 20 finest beach villas.
The Beach House has four doubles and one twin room. One bedroom is housed in its own garden cottage. All bedrooms have ensuite bathrooms with h/w showers, washbasin, and w/c. Rooms have four-poster beds with mosquito nets, tiled floors, and large windows with security grills.
An enclosed sitting room leads onto the front terrace with blissfully comfortable lounging seats looking over across the Indian Ocean. Shaded by palm trees this large swimming pool remains invitingly cool all day. A fully equipped kitchen and a full time staff of four will ensure you are pampered and left to drift away into your own personal sanctuary. Meals are generally eaten on the dining terrace to the crash of ocean waves.
Tangalle is approximately a four hour drive from Colombo’s international airport - alternatively, jump aboard an Air Taxi service to Dickwella, which is just a ten minute drive from the villa.
