Beruwela, about two hours south of Colombo, has developed into one of Sri Lanka's main west coast resorts, housing a selection of medium and good-class hotels among a mile of golden beach. The Eden Hotel & Spa is one of the finest hotels on this stretch of the coast.
Introduction
The Eden Hotel & Spa strives for a sense of grandeur, right down to a claim for five-star status. That rather overstates its case, but if you want a traditional beach hotel of solid virtues and good standards then Red Dot’s judgment is that this is one of the best options on the west coast. Its circular lobby, with white pillars, might be a throwback to the style of the 1920s. Outside is dominated by a huge swimming pool, crossed by small bridges on the way to a large, sandy beach. The interiors were sensitively and stylishly refurbished in 2005, allowing the hotel to escape many of the shackles of its package-travel past.

Facilities
Water is a dominant sensation at Eden. The main restaurant almost has the sense of an aquarium, the main bar has a nautical theme and an Ayurvedic Spa offers rustic, individual cubicles in a garden of ponds and min-waterfalls. There are two restaurants, bar, nightclub, evening entertainment, hair salon, and shops. Sports and leisure facilities include a snooker room, games room, gymnasium with sauna and massage, and squash courts. Numerous watersports are on offer at nearby Confifi Marina.
