Goatfell

Kandapola, Sri Lanka
Luxury hotel banner
Goatfell brings a refined boutique experience to the cool, misty hills near Nuwara Eliya.

This charming four-bedroom tea bungalow blends heritage character with modern comfort, offering an inviting retreat amidst rolling tea fields and dramatic mountain vistas. With its expansive gardens and intimate atmosphere, Goatfell is perfect for couples, friends, or solo travellers seeking tranquillity.

The property’s small scale ensures highly personalised service, and, as with all Teardrop properties, the cuisine and hospitality are consistently exceptional. We love its fresh, contemporary take on the classic tea estate experience, seamlessly combining history, comfort, and understated elegance.

What we love

    • The setting takes centre stage – you’re nestled amidst lush tea plantations, with panoramic views of the surrounding hills
    • The bungalow itself is a restored colonial-era property with elegantly furnished rooms blending traditional charm and modern comforts
    • The personalised service, with attentive staff, ensures an intimate and luxurious experience

Limited number of rooms so early booking is essential As it’s small, it lacks certain amenities like a fitness center or spa The swimming pool is not heated which in the cooler hill country, can make it too cold for some This is a wonderfully remote property, accessed from Nuwara Eliya via a 45-minute drive along a narrow, winding road

Families are welcomed here, and rooms can be interconnected to provide ideal setups for family groups and cribs are available on request. The hotel is probably best suited to families with older children given the calm, serene setting.

Chaperoned children can use the unheated outdoor infinity pool, which overlooks the tea plantations and expansive gardens offer space for outdoor activities and exploration.

Goatfell is nestled between lush tea plantations overlooking the mountains of Nuwara Eliya. While this bungalow is about 45 minutes from Nuwara Eliya, the journey from Colombo airport will take roughly five-and-a-half hours. You can shorten this trip by taking a private seaplane transfer to Gregory Lake, approximately a 35-minute drive from the hotel

What our travellers say

We went to Sri Lanka as a three-generation family of three. The superb trip was organised by Samanthie and the team and it's difficult to see how it could have been bettered.

Red Dot organised the most wonderful 3-week holiday for us. Samanthie built a trip around the amazing sights we had requested visiting, together with her own suggestions and a wide mix of hotels, which gave us the flavours of both traditional Sri Lanka and the sleek, stylish contemporary version of the country. Our Driver made the whole experience incredibly special for us.

I can’t thank Cherylle and the Red Dot team enough for their meticulous planning of our family holiday to India travelling through Rajasthan over Christmas. As a family of all adults, every suggestion from daily activities to hotel choices was simply perfect. We travelled through Delhi, Ranthambore (an unforgettable tiger safari!), Jaipur and Agra and I truly feel we experienced the very best of each destination while moving at a relaxed, well thought out pace

My partner arranged a holiday trip at fairly short notice to Sri Lanka with Red Dot on a recommendation, Samanthie was so patient & helpful with her suggested itinerary which we followed with some minor amendments. On arrival at Colombo we met Manjula our chauffeur/guide who was absolutely brilliant!

Dulmini and the Red Dot Team arranged a fantastic trip for us around Assam and North East India. Faultless service. I cannot recommend them more highly.

We looked up, and communicated with umpteen tour operators. Though Red Dot seemed to have offices in Sri Lanka and the UK, they seemed to have the best reviews. We were fortunate enough to correspond with Cherylle, who not only assured us of the safety of our friend, but created a personalised, and flexible, itinerary which we could not have done ourselves.

A 14-day tour with Red Dot Tours was the perfect antidote to the bleak UK winter. After a glowing recommendation from a friend, we contacted Red Dot Tours and were not disappointed. Our consultant, Lahiru, curated a seamless itinerary. Throughout the planning phase, Lahiru was incredibly responsive; the final itinerary—delivered via a user-friendly 'Guest Portal'—was impressively detailed, covering every hotel stay and excursion.
