Careers at Red Dot
We plan bespoke journeys and incredible holidays to Sri Lanka, India, the Maldives, Bhutan and Nepal. Whether you'd be designing the trips or telling people about them through marketing channels, it's specialised work, and we do it from our UK base and our team in Colombo.
What we look for is harder to summarise. A real, restless curiosity about these countries, deep enough that you'd rather know one corner of Kerala properly than skim the surface of five countries. The kind of personality that connects with people and earns their trust, because clients rarely tell you the most important thing in the first conversation. The patience to listen, whether that's to a client describing what they actually want or to feedback, and the imagination to turn what you hear into something nobody else has done.
Severe attention to detail, because the work goes wrong in the small things. The right driver in Sri Lanka. The right room at a lodge in Chitwan, the appropriate experience for a 4-year-old visiting India. The wrong date in a newsletter. The typo nobody else spotted.
A finger on the pulse of what's new and what's quietly brilliant, whether that's a hotel that opened last week or a way of telling a story we haven't tried yet. And a bit of warmth, because we work very closely with each other and with our partners on the ground, and the ones who do well here actually like working with other people. This is critical.
We're a small team, which means we hire people who are happy to roll up their sleeves and who spot what needs doing without being asked. We want the kind of person who notices the route nobody's flying yet, the partnership we should be having, the channel we're not on. And who, when they spot it, says something. We like opinions and we like collaborating on ideas.
Most of our team came to Red Dot through travel rather than through a CV path. Some have lived in the region. Some travelled there once and never quite shook it off. A few started elsewhere in the industry and wanted to do bespoke properly. We don't have a fixed shape we're recruiting into, but we do hire for the long term, and we'd rather wait for the right person than fill a seat.
A bit on the team itself. We mainly work remotely from home in the UK but regularly get together, talk constantly, sense-check each other's work, and travel together when we can. Our team in Sri Lanka work 2 days from home and 3 days in the office. Our entire sales team is female, which is rarer in the industry than it should be. New ideas are listened to whether they come from someone who's been here a decade or someone who's been here a fortnight. And creativity is part of the job. Every trip is a one-off design challenge, and so is the way we tell our story.
Some of what makes a Red Dot trip extraordinary happens outside our office. We work with the best of the best across the industry, and our ground handlers in each country are exceptional. They're the ones who get a client into a room that isn't normally available, who find the right expert for a specific interest, who pick up the phone at midnight when a flight gets cancelled. Working alongside them is one of the most rewarding parts of the job.
If you join us, you can expect annual trips to the destinations we work in, because the work is harder if you've never been there. Flexibility around how and when you work. We have lives, some of us have children, and we adapt accordingly. A warm, collaborative team where it's normal to ask for help and normal to give it. And real responsibility from early on, with the support to grow into it.
Responsible travel isn't a box we tick. It's a big part of why most of us do this job. The countries we work in are extraordinary places, and the communities within them deserve to benefit from tourism, not just accommodate it. We're a member of the Conscious Travel Foundation and a partner of the Tea Leaf Trust in Sri Lanka, and those partnerships matter to us properly. We want people who feel the same way. If that's not where you are, we're probably not the right fit for each other.
Travel has a tendency to hire the same kind of person. We're trying to do better. We particularly welcome applications from people whose path into the industry hasn't been a straight line, including those returning to work after a break, those without a relevant degree, and those whose background isn't well represented in travel. If you don't meet every line of the job spec but think you'd be a good fit, please apply anyway.
If our current vacancies don't quite fit but you think you'd be a good addition to the team, send us a CV and a short note anyway. We keep speculative applications on file and come back to them when something opens up.
To apply, send your CV and a covering email to cherylle@reddottours.com telling us which role you're interested in and a few sentences about why Red Dot. We'll come back to you within two weeks.
