Eladetta Walauwa,

Kandy

Price From :

Introduction

Located in the little-known yet historic village of Eladetta just an hour from Kandy, this grand mansion harbours stories of days gone by. Surrounded by tea plantations, paddy fields and gardens growing a large variety of fruits, flowers and vegetables, the Eladetta Walauwa was built in the late 1800s by a Kandy chieftain who was the Chief Custodian of the Temple of the Tooth Relic. Today it has seven comfortable rooms and is restored to reflect much of its olden-day glory. The living spaces and verandas have been decorated with portraits and paintings dating to the Kandyan period and are a testament to the history behind this home. Eladetta is the village where British sea captain Robert Knox lived in captivity for many years and his book titled ‘’An Historical Relation of the Island Ceylon’’ published in 1681 contains references to some parts of this 40-acre property the villa is situated in.
