Mango House is a laid-back guesthouse with eclectic interiors and an informal feel. This 200-year old property was originally a Cinnamon warehouse that has been brought to life with vibrant interiors mixed with colonial charm. Architectural features of high timber roofs, clay tiled floors and roof, arched doorways and a broad verandah gives this a feel of an old colonial villa. The bright and airy interiors are highlighted with beautiful purple lotuses and colourful soft furnishings in pink, purple and lime green. Glistening saris cascade along the walls while movie posters from Bollywood add glamour to the exotic living room. Spend your evenings relaxing on a day bed under a Mango tree in the front gardens. If you’re lucky, you may even spot the occasional monkey hovering about on the tree tops. The six well furnished bedrooms are located on the ground and upper floor with views across the clay tiled roofs of Galle Fort. Mango House follows a strict environmental friendly outlook with the use of solar energy to power hot water; recycling of waste; and contributes towards local environmental conservation initiatives. Mango House can be booked by the room or as a whole villa and can accommodate up to 14 guests. Rates include a Continental or English breakfast. Families with children are welcome.
