Café Ceylon consists of two colonial-period houses and a newly-added restaurant set in peaceful gardens scattered with coconut palms. The houses have been caringly refurbished maintaining traditional architecture and blended with modern touches. Polished cement floors, vibrant soft furnishings and whitewashed walls decorated with colourful posters of old Ceylon brightens up the interiors. There are five ensuite bedrooms spread across the two houses. Rooms can be booked individually or as whole villas. The restaurant is set in the same gardens but away from the two houses and is open to resident as well as non-resident guests. Opened in 2013, Café Ceylon is fast gaining popularity for its sumptuous cuisine and wonderful ambience. Café Ceylon can accommodate up to 10 guests and is ideal for friends travelling together and even families with older children. Café Ceylon is the sister property of four other hotels nearby in Galle – Tisara Villas, Octopus Reef Hotel, Koggala Beach Hotel and Long Beach Resort. Guests at Café Ceylon are welcome to use all facilities including swimming pools at any of these hotels and enjoy their pristine beaches that are ideal for swimming during the season from December to April.
One of the houses consists of three double rooms and the other has two double rooms. All rooms are furnished with queen-size antique beds fitted with mosquito netting. Bedrooms open out to the gardens and have a/c, overhead ceiling fans, and attached bathrooms with h/w showers.
Both houses have living and dining areas opening out to the gardens. Meals are served in the privacy of your own villa or at the restaurant. Seafood specialities prepared with fresh fish, lobster, and prawns inspired by Sri Lankan, Mediterranean and Asian recipes is on offer. Snacks, fresh juices, coffee and tea are also served. The open-sided pavilion restaurant has an informal feel and is a popular dining venue on the Galle Coast. Alcoholic beverages are not available. Guests are welcome to bring their own. There is no swimming pool but guests have a choice of using one of the pools at the sister properties just nearby.
Café Ceylon is a popular restaurant with colonial-style rooms set on a coconut grove just a stone’s throw from the turquoise seas of Kabalana on the Galle Coast. Kabalana is known for its good surfing beaches and Café Ceylon is just across the road from the surf break known as `The Rock’, one of Sri Lanka’s best surf points. Galle’s 17C Dutch Fort is just 20 minutes away. The journey from Colombo’s international airport will take about three hours.
