Ooty
Ooty, officially known as Udhagamandalam, is a hill station located in the Nilgiri Hills of Tamil Nadu, renowned for its cooler climate and rich and diverse colonial history.
Established by the British as a summer retreat, the town retains some of its colonial-era charm, with buildings such as the St. Stephen’s Church and the Ooty Railway Station, which is part of the UNESCO-listed Nilgiri Mountain Railway. The surrounding landscape is a mix of sprawling tea plantations, dense forests, and alpine meadows, while the town is centred around the picturesque Ooty Lake.
The area is also home to the 55-acre Government Botanical Garden, which showcases a variety of native and exotic flora. Ooty offers a combination of scenic hikes, wildlife excursions in nearby reserves, and cultural experiences, making it a compelling destination for those interested in both nature and history.
