Narlai
Nestled in the Aravalli Hills between Jodhpur and Udaipur, the tiny village of Narlai centres on the 17th century Rawla Narlai, though the village itself dates back to the 15th century.
Beyond the bougainvillaea-draped walls of the fort, village life plays out in much the same way as it has for centuries, with carved doorways, little traffic and children playing in the streets.
Time here is slow; a leisurely walk to the top of the granite hill that overlooks the village, a visit to a Jain temple, a wander through the small streets and back for pre-dinner drinks on the ramparts.
