Colombo & Negombo
Colombo is a city now moving at pace, with incredible restaurants, chic art galleries, small boutiques and luxury hotels subtly transforming its landscape. Colourful tuk-tuks weave through streets lined with Victorian architecture, while the old fort district reveals Dutch churches and British administrative buildings now housing boutique hotels and rooftop bars. Just beyond the capital, Negombo offers a gentler pace along golden shores with a selection of hotels and local fish markets.
Negombo's canal system, carved by Dutch colonists, winds through Catholic churches and spice-scented markets, while the nearby lagoon provides peaceful boat rides through mangroves where egrets and kingfishers dart between the roots.
