Bundala

South Coast & Yala National Park, Sri Lanka

Bundala National Park stands as one of Sri Lanka's premier wetland sanctuaries, stretching along the southeastern coast as a UNESCO Biosphere Reserve.

This remarkable 6,216-hectare wilderness of lagoons, salt pans, and pristine beaches serves as a crucial haven for over 200 bird species. From August to April, the park comes alive with thousands of migratory waterfowl arriving from as far as Siberia, creating spectacular displays of greater flamingos, painted storks, and pelicans against the backdrop of shimmering waters.

Beyond its avian treasures, Bundala shelters roaming elephant herds, basking crocodiles, and ancient sea turtles that return each year to nest on its secluded shores. The park's shallow, brackish lagoons teem with marine life, making it an essential feeding ground during the great seasonal migrations. For wildlife enthusiasts, Bundala offers an unforgettable window into one of the island's most precious natural sanctuaries./p>
