Inspiration
Perched on the edge of the Ganges in Varanasi, on the Darbhanga Ghat, BrijRama Palace is one of the city’s most iconic landmark hotels.
An 18-year restoration brought it up to date, with the addition of modern amenities like a gym and fitness centre, but with its sandstone walls, antique furniture, and regal soft furnishings, it retains much of its historic charm.
The 32 rooms are uniquely decorated, each with gilded frescos and brightly coloured silks. Start your day with sunrise yoga on the rooftop, then head along the river to observe life on the ghats, before winding down with dinner on BrijRama’s boat.
What we love
- One of Varanasi’s most iconic landmark hotels, dating back to 1812
- Occupying a prime position on the River Ganges, in the heart of Varanasi
- Just 32 rooms ensures an intimate feel
- Dine on delicious vegetarian cuisine in the two restaurants - we love the al fresco terrace that overlooks the Ganges
- Immerse yourself in Varanasi’s culture without even leaving the hotel - observe the morning puja ceremonies and evening aarti straight from the terrace
Neither meat nor alcohol are allowed on the premises but this is common for riverfront hotels in Varanasi - it’s a small price to pay for an authentic experience in the cityFamilies are welcome, but amenities are not designed with families in mind.BrijRama is a zero-waste and zero-plastic property, with all its organic kitchen waste turned into compost. Many of the kitchen’s ingredients are grown in their organic city farm, too.Located on Darbhanga Ghat, right on the banks of the Ganges in the heart of Varanasi. What our travellers say
