Inspiration
Lchang Nang Retreat is a chance to reset, a secluded escape on the roof of the world, overlooking the tranquil Nubra River.
Spend hours meditating with monks at Samstanling Monastery or find your flow with sunset yoga on the Sumur dunes. Couples can cycle the mountain roads by day, and by night, dine alone with a five-course meal or enjoy a movie outdoors under a blanket. Learn the tricks of Ladakhi cuisine and feast on barbecued snacks by the bonfire. Stay in one of 17 homely cottages, with their modern minimal designs but warm and insulating traditional architecture, and stargaze on your private patio every night.
What we love
- A beautiful, peaceful getaway in the Himalayas far away from the noise of urban life
- All 17 cottages are bright and spacious, with their own private patio areas
- Find inner peace with sunset yoga by the river and mindfulness sessions with local monks
- There are endless hiking routes to explore, and you can take a cycling trip along the highest drivable mountain road in the world
- From a five-course dinner for two, to handmade Khambir bread and butter tea, to snacks by the bonfire, the food here is always exciting and embodies the best of the region
Difficult to get to compared to other resorts in the region, being over 3 hours from the airport, but the remoteness is part of the charm
The hotel does not offer rafting experiences like some others in the region do, but we think there are more than enough hiking and biking routes to satisfy the avid adventurer
Being so remote, there are no restaurants nearby, but we think the food experiences at the hotel are varied and exciting enough that you wouldn’t want to go anywhere else
Families are welcome and the family cottages villas have two bedrooms separated by double doors, and king beds that can be separated into twins, with the option to add a third bed. Children can also enjoy rock painting and scavenger hunts with the hotel staff.
The villas are built using traditional architectural methods with locally available resources. The retreat is solar powered, they channel glacier water into the irrigation, and plastic uses are kept to a minimum.
Set in the Nubra Valley in Teggar Village, overlooking the banks of the Nubra River, a 3-hour drive from Kushok Bakula Rimpochee Airport in Leh. An easy base for exploring this remote corner of the Himalayas.
