Inspiration
A charming and historic hotel on a hilltop overlooking Darjeeling. The Mayfair Hill Resort was once the summer residence of the Maharajah of Nazargunj.
Today it offers a heritage feel with plenty of modern comforts and amenities, making it an excellent choice for exploring the area. From its hillside position, it enjoys wonderful views over the valley and the verdant tea plantations. There are 53 guest rooms, all unique in their style and design, with historic features and plenty of blankets to keep you warm in the cooler climes of the hill station region.
The hotel bar showcases the artwork of Goray Douglas and serves lunch, dinner and drinks, whilst the Magnolia restaurant serves local and international cuisine for breakfast and dinner, as well as sundowners on the deck. There is a tea boutique offering tastings of the different leaves grown in the area. A small spa offers a range of treatments, and the hotel’s library is stocked with plentiful tomes and armchairs to relax in. There is a pool table and table tennis table for inclement weather days, and a gym (although there is plenty of outdoor exercise to be had in the trekking trails in the region, too)..
What we love

- Soak up the heritage of this historic region
- Great facilities including a spa, library and gym
- The staff are friendly and welcoming
There are no direct views of Mt Kachenjunga from the hotel, as it overlooks the valley, but there’s a great viewpoint only 100 metres walk away
The elevation can make temperatures quite cool, bring some warm layers with you
Families are welcomed by the hotel, and all rooms are able to accommodate three guests, whilst the family room and suite can accommodate 4 guests. The hotel occupies a prime location on Mall Road, in the heart of Darjeeling, opposite the Governor’s House. What our travellers say
