Inspiration
Rawla Narlai is a meticulously restored 17th-century hunting lodge nestled in the Pali district of Rajasthan, between Udaipur and Jodhpur.
Surrounded by the dramatic landscape of the Aravalli Hills and set at the foot of the majestic Elephant Hill, the property offers an immersive glimpse into Rajasthan’s regal and rural heritage. Its interiors are adorned with intricate frescoes, antique furniture, and bold Rajasthani hues, which we love. The lodge features elegant and varied rooms, each with unique decor blending traditional aesthetics with comfort but nothing overly luxurious. Dining at Rawla Narlai is a wonderful experience, from alfresco dining on the candlelit terraces to sumptuous feasts by the pool.
A particular highlight include the atmospheric Stepwell Dinner. a magical meal set by a 16th-century baoli (stepwell) illuminated by hundreds of oil lamps, and sunrise champagne breakfasts atop Elephant Hill with sweeping views of the surrounding countryside. Activities are varied, from village safaris offering insights into local rural life to guided treks and wildlife safaris, where you might spot a leopard among the rugged terrain. Guests can also enjoy a dip in the serene pool, rejuvenate with Ayurvedic treatments, or simply soak in the tranquil ambiance of this extraordinary heritage retreat. Rawla Narlai is perfect for travellers seeking an authentic and comfortable escape in a brilliant location.
What we love
- Each of the 32 rooms are individually designed and decorated, adding to the hotel’s character
- We love how creative they are with their dining. You can enjoy your meal in a wide variety of locations and atmospheres to suit your mood
- Guided safari tours will show you the most beautiful wildlife the Aravallis have to offer. You might even spot a leopard
- Perfectly located between Jodhpur and Udaipur for those travelling between cities
The hotel is comfortable but not luxurious; you are in a very rural location
There may be the occasional small group staying there, but we don't feel this is a huge problem as they tend to be small
Less suited for those preferring the humdrum of the city, but ideal if you’re looking for a calm rural sanctuary and a contrast to city life
The pool isn’t heated, so it might be better to unwind in the spa on cooler days
Families are welcome, but amenities are not designed with children in mind
The hotel chain proudly supports local village restoration projects, recycles, composts, and sources local ingredients for its restaurants
Nestled in the scenic Aravalli Hills of Rajasthan, in the shadow of gargantuan Elephant Hill.
