Inspiration
Set within 100 acres of desert scrubland in the Great Thar Desert, The Serai is a luxurious camp with just 21 expansive and modern safari-style tents.
Come here to decompress and experience the renowned Relais & Chateaux service, surrounded by ruggedly beautiful landscapes and the twitter of birdsong from dawn to dusk. Embark on adventures in the desert and take an excursion into the medieval city of Jaisalmer, a UNESCO World Heritage Site.
Discover temples, forts, and local crafts before returning to The Serai to continue the pampering. Facilities include an infinity pool, spa, and farm-to-table restaurant.
What we love
- A modern and luxurious camp in the Great Thar Desert National Park
- A member of the coveted Relais & Chateaux collection – expect delicious food and fantastic service
- Buttons in each tent allow you to summon your private butler to satisfy your every whim
- For a property that feels remote, it’s remarkably accessible from Jaisalmer and its airport
- Sundowners, camel safaris, and birdwatching excursions in the desert all come highly recommended
It’s a 45-minute drive to Jaisalmer so if you’re here for the city sights, you may be better off adding some nights in the city to your stay
The menu can be somewhat limited if you’re staying more than a couple of days
As you’re in a National Park with plenty of wildlife, we recommend keeping your tent zipped up to avoid attracting lizards and insects
Families are welcome, but the peaceful atmosphere is better suited to well-behaved kids to avoid disturbing other guests. The Luxury Tented Suites have a private walled courtyard and plunge pool, making them ideal for families or anyone seeking privacy.
Cots and extra beds are available, while children’s meals can be arranged in the restaurant with some notice.
The owners are keen environmentalists and have planted many trees around their properties as part of a rewilding initiative. In 1976, they co-established The SNS Foundation, which strives to educate communities so they can establish economic independence.
Most of the hotel staff are from surrounding rural communities and all of the experiences at the property are carefully designed to give back to the community. They also take in lesser-visited areas to avoid over tourism, and a small portion of every stay goes towards conservation initiatives in the local area.
Set on a vast estate in the Great Thar Desert National Park, approximately a 1-hour drive from Jaisalmer Airport.
