Inspiration
The word Svasara translates to ‘nest’, and the Svasara Jungle Lodge in Todoba lives up to its name by being homely while embracing the wild.
The lodge always brings the outside in, from the local crafts and handwoven fabrics that bring life to each room, to the alfresco dining space constructed with teak and bamboo from the park. On safari, catch sight of tigers, sloth bears, bison and more, and venture through the forests, guided by birdsong. Chill out by the open air pool, treat yourself with Ayurvedic massages in the spa, or simply unwind at the lodge’s cinema that screens daily documentaries on the local wildlife.
What we love
- Explore the park with twice-daily safaris, and learn about the myriad species in the ecosystem with the lodge’s expert naturalists
- Each of the twelve rooms has its own private sit out with views of the lush wilderness
- This particular reserve is less mainstream than other tourist lodges, allowing a sense of exclusivity and seclusion
- There’s an outdoor pool to bask in during the hot days, and you can rejuvenate in the spa, Santraa - the Hindi word for oranges - and which uses fruit in its treatments
- The lodge is also very close to the forest, meaning nature walks and bike rides offer another lens into the park’s vibrant ecosystem
There is no guarantee of seeing any particular species, but with expert naturalists on site, you are bound to return home with plenty of new sightings and knowledge of the natural world
You might find there are more mosquitos about in the rainy season, but the lodge provides insect repellant in all public areas and rooms
Tadoba is a dry state, so there is no alcohol provided on the premises, though we don’t think this should hamper the experience
Families are welcome, though amenities are not specifically designed with families in mind
The owners planted over 4,000 trees to rewild the area and increase biodiversity, and today maintains a butterfly habitat. The lodge employs people from local villages and promotes the teaching of wildlife conservation in schools with various workshops and welfare projects.
Located on Forest Road, a 20-minute drive from the town of Chimur, along State Highway 233, and a 2-hour 20 minute drive from Nagpur International Airport
