Taj Madikeri Resort & Spa

A rainforest retreat in the heart of coffee country, Taj Maidkeri lies 1,200 metres above sea level and its pinnacle positioning offers panoramic views over mountain tops and dense forest.

The hotel boasts 180-acres of rainforest, with 39 cottage rooms and 24 villas scattered among its pristine estate. They all offer crisp, clean luxury with high wooden ceilings, vast windows overlooking the rainforest canopy, white linens, dark wood furniture and ensuite bathrooms.

Four different restaurants serve a plethora of cuisine from international dishes to regional Kodava specialities, poolside grills to farm-grown wellness. The extensive holistic treatment offerings at the onsite J Wellness Circle spa pull on the traditional healing principles of Ayurveda, enriched by the rainforest setting. The hotel also has a fully equipped fitness suite, impressive range of yoga and meditation sessions on offer and a large outdoor infinity pool.

The hotel’s cottages are spread across a large, steep site ensuring utmost privacy and immersion in the surrounding rainforest, but you may need to rely on the hotel’s buggy service to link you to some of the facilities.

Families warmly welcomed with additional beds and interconnecting rooms available on request. The hotel offers guided nature walks, bike rides and treks for both adults and children

The hotel was designed to blend harmoniously into the background of rainforest and mountain peaks, using locally sourced materials and craftsmen. It is managed to ensure energy and water conservation is paramount. Produce for the resort is sourced from nearby farms, ensuring income opportunities for the local community. Local culture is shared with visitors here, with cookery, coffee-making, music and dance experiences all on offer to guests

Mangalore international airport is the closest to the hotel at 140km away, the nearest main railway station is at Mysuru, 120km away The hotel is within easy day trip access to many of the region’s sites, including Abbey Falls, Madikeri Fort, Raja’s Seat and Talacauvery

Exceptional tour of Sri Lanka with Dami. We cannot recommend Dami at Red dot tours highly enough. As our guide over 9 days he made sure that our trip to Sri Lanka was unforgettable- always going above & beyond to impart his knowledge, show us things off the beaten track, looking after us, getting us to try many local delicacies & making us laugh .. a LOT. Cannot imagine anyone doing a better job- if we could take him with us on every holiday we would!

Dulmini did a great job listening to our wishes and arranged an itinerary that was very busy but met all our needs. Sisira, our guide, was outstanding, providing us with great local knowledge and suggesting other activities on our travels. He was a great driver on the busy Sri Lankan roads, was always punctual but above all added colour to the whole trip.

Wow what can I say, from start to finish we have had a wonderful holiday with Red Dot Tours. Dulmini was so helpful in putting an itinerary together for us as a family of 6 and catering to all of our needs. We have ticked off so many of Sri Lanka’s beautiful sights during our trip. We spent 13 days on a Bawa tour with wonderful driver and guide Manjula, including Kandalama Heritance, The Kandy House, The Last House, Jetwing Yala, Jetwing Lighthouse and Club Villa hotels. We are 3 friends, one of them in the wheelchair. Dulmini Ekanayake from Red Dot Tours was very helpful and very patient and found solutions to all our special demands.

This is an excellent tour company. They planned our Sri Lankan holiday from start to finish. The trip was initially planned for 2022 but due to Covid and other issues we didn’t manage to undertake the trip until this year. As a group of 8 we have had the most fabulous tour of Sri Lanka organised by Dulmini from RedDot who totally understood my brief of "some" culture, agriculture, nature, trekking and relaxation. The hotels chosen were a wonderful mixture of homestay, tented and pure luxury (Ceylon Tea Trails). The experiences to local villages, trekking the Pekoe Trail and climbing Pidurangala were memorable and our wonderful guide, Ananda, was so informative and knowledgeable and adapted to our needs admirable (not easy with a group of 8)
