Inspiration
Lovingly converted from a family home, The Bangala is a heritage hotel with almost 100 years of history on the outskirts of Karaikudi, Chettinad’s main town.
Its 24 rooms are all unique, decked out simply with teak and antique furniture. They’re spread between old and new buildings but even the modern rooms have character.
Those here for Chettinad’s cuisine will be spoiled with cooking demonstrations. A central courtyard houses a swimming pool, the perfect place to cool off after exploring Chettinad’s architectural delights - you’ll also find a restaurant, library and plenty of cosy nooks to curl up in.
What we love
- A heritage property that’s a perfect blend between a hotel and a homestay
- Just 24 rooms, each unique in style and size but all of which are comfortable and characterful
- Cool off on hot summer days in the central swimming pool
- If you’re here to experience Chettnad’s fiery cuisine, book a cookery class with The Bangala’s chef for a fun and delicious way to pass an afternoon
- Explore Chettinad’s villages, mansions, and temples
Some of the larger occupancy rooms are located on the upper floors and there aren’t any lifts - be sure to check ground floor availability before you book if you have accessibility requirements
Some of the rooms have less balcony space than others but there are plenty of communal lounge areas - if you prefer a larger balcony, we recommend requesting it in advance to avoid disappointment
During busy seasons you may need to reserve a table at the restaurant
Families are welcome, but amenities are not designed with families in mind.
Located on Devakottai Road on the outskirts of Karaikudi, the main town in Chettinad.
