Inspiration
Oberoi Udaivilas stands in 50 acres of landscaped gardens on the tranquil side of Udaipur’s Lake Pichola, backed by the Aravalli range.
It’s epic in scale and standard, but that doesn’t get lost in the service, which is personalised and attentive, starting from your rose petal welcome. With sandstone walls surrounding decorated courtyards and marble in abundance, the hotel feels palatial without feeling too formal. Rooms are spoiling but calming, the whitewashed walls letting jewel-toned soft furnishings sing. Facilities include two restaurants, one with a spectacular terrace, a bar, a spa, and multiple pools. This is one of Oberoi’s finest properties
What we love
- Located on a tranquil section of Lake Pichola’s lakeshore, away from the bustle of Udaipur but close enough to enjoy the views of the City Palace
- A spacious hotel with expansive and elegant rooms, a rarity in busy Udaipur
- Many of the rooms have access to a private or semi-private pool
- From the moment you arrive, you’ll be well looked after
- Dine on the terrace at Chandni for sweeping views across the lake to the City Palace
The location may be a bit far out for anyone who wants to step outside their hotel and explore but it’s an easy water-taxi ride from Udaipur’s main attractions
Families are welcome and kids will be spoiled by the Oberoi team who run an extensive programme of activities to keep little ones entertained, from clay play and block printing to treasure hunts and kite making.
Additional beds can be added to rooms and children’s menus, high chairs, cots, and babysitting are available on request.
In 2014, the Oberoi Group partnered with SOS Children’s Villages, a project that seeks to support the education and well-being of underprivileged children. They provide care and education for parentless, homeless or abandoned children.
Oberoi Udaivilas is enveloped by expansive gardens on the calmer western shore of Lake Pichola in Udaipur. It’s about 4 miles by car to Udaipur’s main attractions or a shorter boat ride.
