Inspiration
The Chamba Camp is the luxury adventurer’s dream.
Tucked away in the land of the Lamas, this exclusive camp is the ideal getaway for those seeking the spiritual soul of the Himalayas, its centuries of heritage and its awe-inspiring landscapes.
Witness the Thiskey monastery and Nyerma’s active nunnery, and stumble upon the thousand-year-old Buddhist university and the chorten ruins. Embark on a rafting adventure as the Indus weaves you through the mountains. Try your hand at traditional sports like archery and polo, or even discover a new culinary skill, preparing Ladakhi hot soups and other regional delights back at camp.
What we love
- All tents are spacious, fitted with large windows that present wonderful views of the Himalayas, and private patios for romantic stargazing
- Perfect for the adventure traveller, with spectacular hiking routes, exhilarating rafting on the Indus River, traditional polo and archery too
- Soak in the alpine heritage, discover active nunneries, pray with Thiskey monks at sunrise and watch traditional Ladakhi dance performances
- Guests frequently praise the service. Many of the staff are from the local area, proud of their heritage and are passionate about sharing it with you
There are fewer restaurants close to the camp than there would be next to a hotel in the city, but guests can enjoy soul-warming mok-mok and thukpa, and have the experience of learning to prepare new food with local families
For those looking for 100% authentic design, note that their tents are from South Africa and not the local region, but the interior work and furnishings are selected from various regions of India, and there’s plenty of culture to be discovered outside of camp
WiFi does not reach the tents and is only available in communal areas - but if you’re here to switch off, there’s no better way
Families are welcome but amenities are not designed with families in mind.
Surrounded by the peaks of the Himalayas in Thiksey Naga, close to the Thiskey mona and a 30-minute drive from Kushok Bakula Rimpochee Airport in Leh.
