Inspiration
The Ultimate Travelling Camp at Diskit rests at the confluence of two majestic rivers, Shyok and Nubra, and the landscape treats you to both desert dunes and epic mountains.
Long hikes through these spiritual valleys will reward soul searchers with ancient monasteries. Trek by camel in the footsteps of merchants, mercenaries and monks. Enjoy an idyllic picnic lunch in the apple and apricot orchards.
Visit the humble village of Turtuk for a true sense of life in the Himalayas, and walk the way of the Lamas and meet the Maitreya Buddha, the gargantuan 32-metre tall statue that safeguards the valley.
What we love
- Your luxury tents are spacious yet homely, with views on all sides of the Himalayan panorama
- A tranquil getaway from the continuous hum of city life, yet with all the modern amenities to keep you comfortable
- Visit the ancient monastery Diskit Gompa, spin the prayer wheel, join the ancient monks in worship and immerse yourself in spirituality
- This is the adventure traveller’s dream, with endless trekking routes and archery available every day
The camp isn’t open all year round, but if you’re looking to visit between May and September, then this could be for you
The hotel’s tents are from South Africa and do not entirely reflect the design features of the local region, but the interior work and furnishings are selected from various regions of India, and there’s plenty of culture to be discovered outside of camp
While there is less here to do than at other Ultimate Travelling Camps, there is still plenty of both culture and nature for you to discover
Families are welcome, but amenities are not specifically designed with families in mind
Located at the confluence of the Nubra and Shyok rivers in the Himalayan village of Diskit, a 3-hour drive from Kushok Bakula Rimpochee Airport in Leh, Ladakh.
