Inspiration
Kandy was the last capital of the ancient king’s era in Sri Lanka, and Clove Villa honours its history with its vibrant, elegant decor.
Its seven airy rooms are designed with high timber roofs and towering windows, and its vast open-plan living area is ornamented with chic furniture while still feeling homely. A calming pool nests in a manicured garden peppered with exotic flowers, and dinner on the roof terrace lifts you in line with verdant canopies. Spend your days on a Kandyan temple excursion, or letting loose in the shopping centres in Kandy City Centre, before retreating to the villa for billiards and board games.
What we love
- Set away from the hustle and bustle of Kandy town, yet close enough to enjoy Kandy’s ancient cultural heritage
- Bedrooms are nice and airy, with high ceilings and large windows, and all of them come with WiFi, air-con and flatscreen TVs
- Plenty to keep guests entertained, from the pool outside in the well-manicured garden to board games, books and billiards
- Guests frequently praise the villa’s spotlessness
- The hotel’s stylish and opulent style which blends the chic and modern with the colonial and traditional
You’re a little far from Kandy’s main sights, but the tradeoff is the calmer atmosphere of a residential part of town
If you or anyone in your family has mobility issues, make sure to book the rooms on the ground floor as there are no lifts at the property
There are fewer restaurants close by, but guests often note the quality of the hotel’s own menu
Families are welcome, though amenities are not designed with families in mind, and elderly relatives may prefer rooms on the ground floor due to the lack of lifts in the building.
Located on Weerakoon Mawatha Road, a 15-minute drive from the centre of Kandy, and a 2-hour 45-minute drive from Colombo International Airport.
