Inspiration
Beautifully designed, Gal Oya Lodge is a tranquil and very stylish eco lodge, made up of several thatched bungalows and villas spread across a 20-acre forest.
The property is edged by Gal Oya National Park, a remote and unique area known for lake swimming elephants, and the Senanayake Samudraya, one of Sri Lanka's largest lakes. The property suits couples, honeymooners but also adventurous families. You'll find friendly staff, a cool crisp pool, clean rustic rooms with semi outdoor bathrooms.

The property is comprised of several eco-friendly bungalows and villas, constructed using locally sourced materials. There are numous activities on offer, including a jeep and boat safari, a guided nature walk and even meeting with the local Vedda people
What we love
- This is a firm favourite of ours, due to the unique location near Gal Oya National Park
- It seems fairly remote, but the roads to get there are good and you will pass through quintessential Sri Lankan rural scenery that we love
- We love heading out by boat to hopefully spot elephants; there's nowhere else you can do this
- The style of the property, despite being simple, is tasteful and sympathetic
- A great pool for such a remote location
- A fantastic range of experiences
There's no air conditioning in the rooms, only fans, but this is naturally much better for the environment
The international food isn't the best, so opt for the delicious Sri Lankan food if you can
The jeep journey to get to your boat safari is quite long, but we enjoyed the journey
Families are welcome but there are no specific facilities for them. We feel it's designed with slightly older children in mind, rather than babies or toddlers.Focusing on sustainability, minimising impact on the surrounding environment, supporting local communities and working with wildlife protection initiatives. On the edge of Gal Oya National ParkWhat our travellers say
