Inspiration
Kalu’s Hideaway is a tranquil retreat located on five acres of tropical gardens bordering the serene Walawe River, just minutes from Udawalawe National Park.
Owned by Romesh Kaluwitharana, a celebrated cricketer from Sri Lanka’s 1996 World Cup-winning team, this eco-friendly property has evolved from a simple holiday home into a 14-room simple but comfortable resort that offers much-needed accommodation in the Uda Walawe area. The rooms are comfortable and well-suited to the relaxed, natural setting, with Sri Lankan rice and curry being a highlight of the dining experience. Guests are welcomed by friendly and attentive staff team, who help create a homely atmosphere rather than anything too formal. After an adventurous safari in the nearby national park, famous for its elephants, guests can unwind by the swimming pool or enjoy a refreshing juice.
Families are warmly welcomed, and the peaceful environment makes it an ideal base for both wildlife enthusiasts and those seeking a restful escape close to nature. Accommodation at Kalu’s Hideaway consists of 14 simple but well-appointed rooms and suites, each offering serene garden views. Interiors are simple but thoughtfully designed, featuring king-sized beds or large single beds close to queen-sized dimensions. Modern amenities include air conditioning, overhead fans, satellite TV, tea and coffee-making facilities, and electronic safes. The ensuite bathrooms are equipped with hot-water showers, ensuring comfort and convenience after a day of exploring the nearby Uda Walawe National Park.
