Inspiration
Ranna Beach House is a peaceful three-bedroom retreat tucked away on a quiet stretch of beach near the southern town of Tangalle.
With an emphasis on privacy and barefoot luxury, the villa is ideal for families or small groups seeking a relaxed escape. The real gem of this property is the expansive, palm-studded garden that leads directly to the pool and the ocean beyond, creating a seamless flow between indoor comfort and tropical outdoor living. Inside, the property combines natural materials with soft furnishings in muted tones, to create airy interiors that exude modern beach-side sophistication.
Each bedroom features a king-sized, four-poster bed and a polished-cement ensuite bathroom, with private terrace space. Two of the rooms open out onto the garden itself and offer sweeping views of the glittering ocean. Guests can enjoy a flexible, home-style dining experience; either bringing their own ingredients or having the villa’s cook source them locally. Meals are then freshly prepared and served in the comfort of the villa.
What we love
- Nestled along a pristine stretch of coastline, the villa offers unmatched privacy and direct beach access, making it a tranquil escape from crowded resorts
- Take a trip to the nearby Rekawa Lagoon and enjoy a tranquil sunrise or sunset kayak on the calm waters, exploring the vibrant wildlife of the rare mangrove habitat
- From thrilling wildlife safaris to guided temple visits, the villa team can arrange unique experiences thoughtfully designed to immerse guests in the region’s natural beauty and rich culture
Although the property does offer direct access to a pristine Sri Lankan beach, sea-swimming is not advised here due to the powerful waves. However, safe and popular swimming spots such as Hiriketiya and Dikwella are a short drive away.
Families are welcomed at the villa and the spacious rooms and common areas provide plenty of space to relax and enjoy time together. The grocery-based dining experience, allows you full control over menu options, making it easy to tailor meals to suit the whole family. Nearby swimming beaches, turtle watching, and nature trails offer engaging experiences for children of all ages.
The villa is largely composed of locally sourced, natural materials and furnishings, and the staff are keen to encourage community engagement with local farmers and artisans of the area.
25 minutes by car from the town of Tangelle, and 49km from Mattala where you’ll find the closest major train station and Rajapaksa International Airport. 10 minutes away by car is Kalametiya Bird Sanctuary, a coastal wetland that is home to a huge variety of bird species. Mulkirigala Rock Temples, built in the 3rd century BC, are just 45 minutes from the villa.
