Inspiration
The Last House, situated in the serene deep south near Tangalle, is an exquisite boutique hotel nestled on a stunning stretch of land between a tranquil lagoon and the turquoise sea.
This architectural gem, designed by Sri Lanka’s renowned Geoffrey Bawa, is so named because it was his final creation, combining his signature style of modernism with the island’s rich cultural heritage. Shaped like a horseshoe, the villa features living rooms, kitchen, and courtyard bedrooms surrounding a beautifully designed swimming pool on three sides, creating a perfect balance between social spaces and private retreats.
The design allows for versatile living, with verandas, dining areas, and sitting rooms that can host gatherings yet maintain a sense of intimacy. The villa is set within lush gardens at the back, with a sprawling lawn leading directly to the fabulous beach, which offers safe swimming for much of the year. The Last House can be booked per room or in its entirety, accommodating up to 14 guests for an exclusive, tranquil experience. This peaceful haven is a true testament to Bawa’s architectural genius, offering both luxury and privacy in one of Sri Lanka’s most picturesque locations.
