You’ll be met on arrival by your private driver and driven through rural Negombo, maybe catching glimpses of monkeys among the lush coconut and pineapple plantations. On arrival at your hotel, take some time to relax and recharge.

This morning you’re driving to Sigiriya, winding through rolling countryside dotted with rice paddies and traditional villages. As you get closer to the cultural triangle, keep an eye out for the first views of the rock fortress rising out from the plains.

You’re up early climbing Pidurangala Rock to watch the sunrise illuminate Sigiriya. Next, the ancient capital of Polonnaruwa, with its impressive statues and vast palaces. Back at the hotel, a crisp pool awaits.

From an early start climbing to the viewpoint of Little Adams Peak, you’ll head to the 8th-century rock carvings at remote Buduruwagala before reaching Yala National Park. An afternoon jeep safari will see you head into the wilderness seeking crocodiles, elephants and sloth bears.

We spent 13 days on a Bawa tour with wonderful driver and guide Manjula, including Kandalama Heritance, The Kandy House, The Last House, Jetwing Yala, Jetwing Lighthouse and Club Villa hotels. As a group of 8 we have had the most fabulous tour of Sri Lanka organised by Dulmini from RedDot who totally understood my brief of "some" culture, agriculture, nature, trekking and relaxation. The hotels chosen were a wonderful mixture of homestay, tented and pure luxury (Ceylon Tea Trails). The experiences to local villages, trekking the Pekoe Trail and climbing Pidurangala were memorable and our wonderful guide, Ananda, was so informative and knowledgeable and adapted to our needs admirable (not easy with a group of 8)
