Inspiration
An ornately curated expression of place and history in the heart of the Paro Valley, Zhiwaling Heritage is a lodge built to honour local craftsmanship and the storied culture of the valley. Every space exudes an eye-opening commitment to detail: dark wooden carvings swirl with motifs drawn from Bhutanese folklore and Buddhist history, combining with soulfully coloured accents to create living tapestries of history and cultural celebration. These unique interiors evoke a language of meaningful lineage, encouraging continuity of the kingdom’s identity.
Aroma, intimacy and ritual combine in the lodge’s tea house, a warm space where guests are invited to participate in traditional Bhutanese tea ceremonies, mastering the art of traditional butter tea supervised by local experts. Similarly unique to a stay here is the in-house temple, constructed with ancient timber reclaimed from the infamous Gangtey monastery. Entering this space is to step into layers of spiritual ceremony, with guided introductions to Buddhist heritage woven into the gentle rhythm of the lodge.
Room interiors are composed of a dialogue between colour and craft. Deep crimson, gold and umber punctuate the dark carved doorways and panelling, whilst sprawling beds and bathrooms embed the suites in an undeniable sense of luxury.
Dining at Zhiwaling Heritage is a celebration not just of local ingredients but of culinary expertise. Highly trained local chefs reinterpret Bhutanese flavours with finesse, incorporating international influences which celebrate rather than disguise the food’s origin.
At Zhiwaling Heritage, cultural depth and sensory richness converge to create a uniquely celebratory ambience
