Golf in Kandy

Although golf in Kandy is limited to just one course, it is an utterly unforgettable experience and is far and beyond the best place to play golf in Sri Lanka. The course at Victoria Golf and Country Resort, designed in 1997 by award-winning Donald Steele, has won numerous awards and was included in the Golfers Digest ‘Top 100 Most Beautiful Courses in the World’.

It certainly lives up to expectation. Victoria Golf and Country Resort is a sprawling 500 acre estate which lies next to the Victoria Reservoir an hour outside of Kandy and the golf course here is the star attraction. Framed by the majestic Knuckles Mountain Range, the bright green fairways are lined with swaying tropical trees, and players can gaze out at the spectacular views across Sri Lanka’s foothills between each shot.

However, Victoria Golf Course is not merely beautiful – even the best golfers will have to work to get a good card on this testing course. It has holes that will test all your golfing skills, from long hitting on the three 500-yard par 5s to the short, testing par 3s and their icy fast greens, and has a continuously changing elevation which adds some difficulty to the more simple shots.

As well as golf, there are a wide range of things to do at Victoria Golf and Country Resort. Enjoy a game of tennis, or go horse riding; do one of the nature trails and look out for birds; go swimming in the large outdoor infinity swimming pool; have a relaxing Ayurvedic massage, and head to the Araliya Restaurant and Bar for some much-needed refreshments.
