Heritance Ahungalla Sri Lanka

Media Reviews
"'….the interior was a striking and contemporary as the rest of the hotel…trees grow inside and water falls from one level to another providing the soundtrack as you scale the stairs. There is the delightful feeling of being among nature even whey you are indoors finding your way back to your room……It’s a pleasure to stay at Heritance. The staff is professional and friendly…..It is this that sets the hotel apart form others on the coast and…makes for both top class hospitality and real heart.'"

Location
Heritance Ahungalla, previously known as Triton Hotel, is reasserting itself as one of the finest hotels on the west coast. Located on a prized expanse of sandy beach in Ahungalla, a small fishing hamlet 9 km North of Ambalangoda on Sri Lanka's West Coast, Heritance is protected on three sides by thick coconut groves and looks grandly over the turquoise blue waters of the Indian Ocean. Situated between Bentota and Hikkaduwa, Heritance is a two-and-a-half hour drive from Colombo.
Introduction
An early creation of Sri Lanka's famous architect, Geoffrey Bawa, Heritance Ahungalla has long been one of the island's premier west coast beaches. A complete refurbishment has now revitalised the property, making it in Red Dot's judgment a highly-reliable option. The hotel is approached through a long stretch of roadway off the main Galle Road, which provides for a dramatic entrance with views across the infinity pool edging the sea. The main areas on the ground as well as upper floors are designed as linked open pavilions - all with continuous views of the sea. Bawa uses his signature architectural style that erases boundaries between the `outside' and `inside', resulting in plenty of access to the natural elements - the tropical sun, ocean breeze, lush greenery and flowing water. Heritance is an architectural masterpiece and a classic beach hotel.

Accommodation
The 154 newly-refurbished a/c rooms are tastefully designed to reflect a sense of elegance and sophistication with ensuite bathrooms and a balcony or terrace with spectacular views of the Indian Ocean. The room interiors are decorated in shades of black, beige and gold and furnished with contemporary timber and steel furniture. The rooms are categorised as Deluxe Rooms, Suites, and Luxury Suites. The well-appointed rooms delight many, but they do have a slightly "business" feel so if you are hankering after a less practical, more informal, feel then you may wish to consider other options.

Deluxe Rooms: Elegantly furnished with double bed, sofa, lounging chairs, and writing desk. In-room facilities include satellite TV, mini bar, IDD phone facilities, safe, tea / coffee making facility, and ensuite bathroom with h/w rain shower, hair dryer, bathrobe and slippers. The private balconies have spectacular sea views.

Suites: In addition to the above facilities, the spacious Suites have a living area and balcony or terrace. Guests are pampered with a special pillow menu, soap menu, scented candles and personalized stationary at the writing desk. The ensuite bathrooms include a range of luxury toiletries.

Deluxe Suites: These luxurious suites are extensive and have a sleeping area, living and dinging areas, and a balcony or terrace overlooking the sea. Bathroom facilities include h/w rain shower, bath tub and Jacuzzi.

The Heritance hotels have a good reputation for the quality of their food. Nightly entertainment programmes include cultural shows and bands performing western and Sri Lankan music.
