Palm Paradise Cabanas is a long-standing eco-retreat with a deliberately rustic feel that appeals to independent travellers yearning for peaceful accommodation in secluded, natural surroundings. There is a distinct ‘back-to-nature’ feel about Palm Paradise which continues to win it many admirers. This eco-retreat was originally established in 1980 and has undergone many developments since then. Accommodation is in wooden cabanas on stilts or in separate villas. The beach remains relatively untouched here and is visited by sea eagles, pelicans and cormorants, and at night even the occasional sea turtle looking to lay her eggs. Parrots and monkeys rest in the trees and squirrels wander through the grass. The seas fronting Paradise Beach Cabanas is secluded and safe for swimming during the season from December to April.
Accommodation is in wooden cabanas and single/two storey villas that are scattered around a gently-sloping palm grove, which leads down to a sandy cove sheltered by rocks and a small reef.
The single and two storey villas were constructed in 2013 and are set away from the main property in a more secluded area close to the swimming pool.
Wooden Cabanas: The 22 octagonal-shaped wooden cabanas on stilts are built from ageing palm trees. Each consists of a bedroom which opens out to a private veranda and attached bathroom with h/w shower. These cabanas are rudimentary, but have basic comforts - tables, chairs, a bed with mosquito net, and fan. There are double cabanas and family cabanas that can sleep up to four guests. The wooden cabanas are scattered across a hillock which leads down to the sea.
Villas: The villas are set in separate gardens, closer to the swimming pool. These are spacious with high ceilings and tall glass doors opening out to terraces for inside and outdoor living and dining. The single-storey villas consist of a large bedroom, attic and private terrace. The two-storey villas consist of two Deluxe bedrooms each and have wrap-around terraces with ocean views across the tree tops. Villa facilities include optional a/c, overhead fans, Wi-Fi and room service. The beach can be accessed by a short stroll through the main property.
The restaurant serves Sri Lankan and western cuisine prepared with fresh seafood and village vegetables. A range of wines, cocktails, chilled beers and fresh fruit juices are on offer. Other hotel facilities include a swimming pool set amidst tropical gardens, relaxing Ayurvedic massages, open air lounge, library, indoor games, IDD telephone, TV with satellite channels, Wi-Fi, bicycles for rent, room service and laundry service. Palm Paradise fronts a secluded beach which is equipped with sun lounges and umbrellas.
Palm Paradise is set on an extensive coconut plantation and fronts a secluded stretch of beach in the fishing village of Goyambokka near Tangalle. The journey from Colombo’s international airport will take approximately four hours.
