Coco Tangalla is a six-bedroomed, colonial-period villa perched on a small rise directly overlooking the Indian Ocean. Tangalle can be accessed along the southern coast or travelling south from the hill country. The direct journey to Tangalle from Colombo’s international airport via the Southern Highway will take about four hours. Alternatively, jump aboard an Air Taxi service which flies to Dickwella, about 10 minutes drive away from the villa.
Introduction
Coco Tangalla is managed by the owner of Kandy House and The Last House, both highly-regarded properties. The Main House and an adjoining annex lie at the highest point with the infinity swimming pool and gardens at lower levels. Interiors are stylishly decorated with a mixture of modern furniture and Dutch-period antiques, local art, and infusions of colour. Coco Tangalla can be booked by the room or throughout and can accommodate up to 12 guests. Coco Tangalla welcomes children eight years and over.

Accommodation
There are six a/c ensuite bedrooms each possessing individual style. The Main House consists of three doubles and one twin room. Adjacent to the main house is the annex with two more bedrooms. These rooms can interconnect if required, and are ideal for a family. The larger of the two bedrooms in the annex open on to a private verandah with sea views. The second is a twin room with a spacious, partly outdoor bathroom. All bedrooms have ensuite bathrooms with h/w showers.
Facilities
Coco Tangalla’s living and dining areas are furnished with comfortable sofas and has an informal feel. The terrace has spectacular sea views and is ideal for lounging with a cup of afternoon tea or an early evening sundowner. Meals are served in the open sided garden pavilion overlooking the sea. Meals are prepared with fresh seafood purchased daily from the local fisherman and vegetables from the local market. The infinity edge swimming pool is located a few steps below the main house and has wonderful views across Tangalle Bay. The sea right in front of the villa is not suitable for swimming. Just four kms away is Seenimodara (Sugar Bay) which is ideal for swimming during the season from December to April. Other villa facilities include wifi internet, selection of CDs and books, laundry service and relaxing massages with prior notice.
Excursions
The south coast offers an attractive mix of beaches, history, wildlife and adventure. The beaches are secluded, long and unspoiled by overdevelopment. An extensive coral reef along the coast, has given rise to several bays, which are ideal for swimming and snorkeling. Surfers will like the beaches around Ahangama and Midigama. Closer to Matara, you could explore Polhena and Talalla, a gorgeous crescent-shaped bay. Just four kilometers away from Tangalle is Seenimodara, one of south coast’s best beaches. For wildlife enthusiasts, there is the Yala National Park, home to many species of animals including the elusive Leopard. Bundala’s wetlands, which combines 20km of beach, lagoons and scrub jungle hosts more than 150 bird species. Visit Rekuwa, a small fishing village near Tangalle where a fascinating Marine Turtle Conservation project is helping to save this endangered species. Mirissa Water Sports offers several activities including whale watching, snorkeling, sailing, river trips, and sea kayaking. Mirissa Water Sports is a charitable organization helping to generate employment for the youth from the tsunami affected coastal areas.
