Uda Kanda, meaning uphill, is a three-bedroom villa perched on a hillock looking down on to the surrounding jungle canopy that attracts plenty of birds and monkeys. On a clear day, the turquoise seas can be spotted at a distance from the pool pavilion. Uda Kanda has a warm and informal ambience that feels very much like a home away from home. Designed along the lines of a traditional southern home, the villa has broad verandahs that merge with the gardens allowing for indoor and outdoor living. Interiors are well decorated with Dutch-period antiques, plush sofas, colourful furnishings, and art from Europe and the east. Laze by the infinity pool and take in the breathtaking views or spend your time on the verandah with a good book and a cup of Ceylon tea. For the more active, there is plenty to do such as village walks and nature trails through the plantation where birding is rewarding. Small animals such as porcupine, mongoose, palm squirrels, wild rabbits and the endangered purple-faced langur can also be spotted here. The sunkissed beaches of the Galle Coast are only 10 minutes away. Uda Kanda is booked on a villa-only basis and accommodates six guests. Families with children are welcome.
