Introduction
Kandy Cottage is a simple three-bedroom guest house by the Udawattekelle forest and bird sanctuary. Surrounded by tall tropical trees, it is a small guest house with cooling cement floors, timber ceilings and comfortable rooms. The walls of the living area are often used to display art which encourages young local artists. Guests here are encouraged to get to know one another and exchange ideas. The Sri Lankan owners runs this guest house more like a home with the greatest respect to nature and the wildlife that surround it. Kandy Cottage is popular with artists, writers, naturalists, and those looking to spend a quiet holiday amidst nature.
Accommodation
There are three bedrooms furnished with single or double beds fitted with mosquito netting and pedestal fans to keep cool.
Moonlit Space – This bedroom opens out to a small private verandah and has an ensuite bathroom with h/w shower. Furnished with two single beds put together, writing desk, armchairs and has internet connection.
Creative Space – This bedroom is furnished with a double bed, a writing table at the window, armchair and internet connection. The bathroom is located about 15-20 feet away and has a h/w shower.
Friendly Space – Consisting of two adjoining bedrooms, this unit is suitable for a family. One bedroom has two single beds put together and the adjoining room has bunk beds. Both rooms share a bathroom.
Facilities
The small living area opens out to the front garden which is often frequented by monkeys, chipmunks, porcupine, mouse deer and numerous species of birds. There is a writing desk in the living room with internet connection. The dining area has a six-seater table. Sri Lankan rice and curries and some western dishes are served here. Discuss your preferences ahead of time with the Manager, Devika, who will ensure a tasty meal is prepared to your liking. Wireless internet is available throughout the house.
