Saffron Cottage is a homely one-bedroom beach property set on a quiet section of coastline close to popular Mirissa Bay on Sri Lanka’s south coast. The colourful, cosy décor, compact kitchen and large garden makes this bungalow, previously an abandoned fisherman’s residence, feel like an English holiday cottage and so gives it a special flavour. Saffron Cottage has just two rooms – one bedroom with two twin beds, one double bed and a large ensuite bathroom, and an open-plan living space with comfortable seating and a small kitchen area, making it a good value option for families with younger children seeking a private beach stay. The expansive garden is shaded by trees, a great space for children to play in during the heat of the day, and leads straight to the beach.
Note: The currents in the sea directly in front of this property can be unpredictable, so we recommend swimming at nearby Mirissa Bay where the currents are calmer.
There is one large bedroom, divided into an area with twin beds and a section with a double bed, ideal for families travelling with young children. The ensuite bathroom is pleasantly spacious with a shower, w/c, sink and mirror. The décor of the bedroom and bathroom is light, simple and subtle.
You can cook your own meals in the small kitchen and eat at the shaded table in the garden, or you can choose to dine out – there are a variety of cafés and restaurants close by. There is a bookcase full of interesting books to keep both adults and children entertained. The garden has direct beach access and is furnished with sun-loungers and seating.
