Introduction
This 19th century mansion sitting on an acre of countryside is definitely not your average hotel in the hills. SinhaGiri overlooks the Nuwara Eliya Race Course and provides an interesting abode for those seeking some variety.
SinhaGiri is part of the Manor House Concept collection which ensures that service and quality remain at superior levels.
The two lion sculptures standing at the entrance to the mansion embody the name SinhaGiri (‘sinha’ means ‘lion’ in Sinhala) and leads you through to the little vintage mosaic-floored hall which blends into the dark-red hued narrow corridor opening out to the variety of rooms.
Accommodation
SinhaGiri offers accommodation in two spacious quirky rooms: Peony Room and Parrot Room. Each of the rooms is individualistic in style and equipped with a dressing table, iron and a fireplace. The beds are comfortable and have a large floral headboard to match the single sofa while the soft furnishings are kept simple.
The Peony Room is decorated with vivid wallpaper adorned with Peonies while the Parrot Room is covered with an equally colourful parrot infused wallpaper.
Each room has an attached bathroom which is spacious and is fitted with vintage bronze faucets and showerheads. The bathrooms are complete with hairdryer, h/w and toiletries.
Facilities
SinhaGiri is a mystical delight that will not fail to captivate you at every turn. The Music Room is one filled with Geisha costumes on display and a fireplace fronted by two comfortable chairs where you can spend an evening listening to music. There is also a lounge area whose walls are adorned with a myriad of elaborately framed photographs, leading to a smoking room overlooking the gardens.
The dining room at SinhaGiri is spacious and accommodates a six-seater dining table. There is also a large room filled with taxidermied creatures including leopard and deer. This lounge also has a large snooker table as well as a small space to sit by a fire.
SinhaGiri is able to cater from a good selection of Sri Lankan and Western dishes. Meals can be enjoyed either in the dining room or even outside in the gardens.
