Location
Chaaya Blu is situated on the white sandy beaches of Uppuveli where the shimmering waters of the Indian Ocean are perfect for swimming and snorkelling from March to October. Situated four miles north of Trincomalee just before Nilaveli, Chaaya Blu is one of two main accommodation options in the area. Trincomalee can be accessed on the A6 route from Habarana in the Cultural Triangle and takes about 2.5 hours. The journey from Colombo will take approximately 6.5 hours via Habarana.
Introduction
Chaaya Blu is one of the finest hotels on the north eastern coast of Sri Lanka. Refurbished and rebranded, it reopened in May 2010 looking bright and airy with a `retro chic’ theme running through the hotel created by architect Channa Daswatte. Gleaming white walls, floors, and furniture highlighted with denim trimmings and a dash of bright orange here and there provides a novel touch to this beachside hotel. Relax and unwind on the endless beaches of Chaaya Blu; go snorkelling to nearby Pigeon Island and experience the colourful coral gardens and exotic reef fish; take in the spectacular sunrise; and feast on freshly prepared seafood under a starlit sky. Chaaya Blu does much to benefit the youth of Uppuveli including providing much needed employment and training in the hospitality industry. Chaaya Blu is one of the oldest hotel properties belonging to the reputed John Keells Group who also owns other Chaaya hotels in Sri Lanka and the Maldives.

Accommodation
There are 80 rooms which include 43 Superior rooms, 36 Beach Chalets, and two Suites. All rooms have a private balcony or verandah and are furnished with double or twin beds, lounge chairs and work desk. Standard in-room facilities include a/c, overhead fans, cable TV, IDD telephone, minibar, tea/coffe facility, hair dryer, room service and laundry service. Ensuite bathrooms have h/w showers.

Superior Rooms: The 43 Superior rooms are located over two floors and open out to the central gardens, swimming pool and the sea beyond.

Beach Chalets (Deluxe Rooms): There are 36 Beach Chalets constructed in units of four and are located at the beach front. The sea views are wonderful from these Beach Chalets. The ground floor units open out to a private verandah with a day bed and the upstairs units open on to a private balcony. In addition to the standard facilities, these rooms have a DVD player, safety deposit box, bath robe and slippers.

Suites: The two spacious suites consist of a bedroom and separate sitting area opening out to a private balcony. Ensuite bathrooms have h/w shower and bath tub.
Facilities
First views as you enter Chaaya Blue are of the spectacular infinity pool that merges with the turquoise ocean beyond. The main restaurant serves Sri Lankan and international cuisine buffet style for breakfast, lunch and dinner. The speciality seafood restaurant by the beach, offers a range of fresh seafood dishes, especially crab, prepared to your liking. There are two bars serving liquor, non-alcoholic beverages, soft drinks and juices. Chaaya Blu has full equipped watersports centre that conducts PADI certified diving courses, snorkelling excursions accompanied by the in-house naturalist, underwater photography excursions, wakeboarding, wind surfing, canoeing, deep sea fishing, and whale and dolphin watching excursions. The naturalist also conducts awareness programmes along with audio-visual presentations on the marine life found in this region. Other hotel facilities include a gym, play area for children, and an extensive beach frontage where the waters are safe for swimming during the season.
Excursions
Pigeon Island, a breeding site for Blue Rock Pigeon, is located just a short boat ride offshore from Club Oceanic and is an ideal location for half-day snorkeling excursions. Snorkelling along the 6 km reef shelf located nearby is also a wonderful experience for those interested in marine life. The waters around Trincomalee are also famous for Whale watching with more than 12 different species including the Common Blue Whale, Bryde’s Whale and the Sperm Whale inhabiting these waters. Explore Trincomalee town with a deep rooted history. Visit Fort Frederick, first used by the Portuguese in 1624, followed by the Dutch and later by the British. At the northern tip of Fort Frederick is a cliff known as “Swami Rock” which drops around 360 feet (110 meters) directly into the sea below. On its topmost pinnacle is the Tirukonesvaram Hindu Kovil. Colourful “Poojas” or religious services are conducted here at dusk. The view of the natural harbour and the Indian Ocean is breathtaking from this location.
