Media Reviews
"'Tea Trails offers a range of luxury rooms and suites, each property being recently charmingly restored to offer a unique luxury experience of life on a working tea estate. All bungalows differ in style: on the shores of Lake Castlereagh is Summerville, which has the air of an English country cottage with lovely sitting room with doors opening out to the Lake. On the other side of the valley is the more modern looking Norwood, where delicious Tea cuisine gained its inspiration; and in the valley beyond is Tientsin, an eccentric Colonial property "

Location
Tientsin is the most `old colonial' of the four luxurious bungalows in the acclaimed Tea Trails collection, as well as possessing historical significance as the first British tea bungalow built in what was then Ceylon. The planters would look agape at its luxurious feel now. It nestles among the rich green hills of the Dickoya region in central Sri Lanka, more than 4,000ft above sea level. It is a perfect indulgent getaway from the demands of everyday living and an ideal destination for a long weekend retreat. The bungalow is located 45km south of Nuwara Eliya and a drive of four hours or more from Colombo.
Introduction
Step into the world of Teintsin and step back in time. This spacious and indulgent bungalow was one of the first to be built in Ceylon tea country and its slightly stern feel still stirs memories of yesteryear. Named after the Chinese village from which the original tea seedlings came, this very British residence is a historic landmark. Wander the glorious rose terraces and hide away under a leafy arbour to the myriad sounds of the many birds that make their homes there. The well-kept gardens still stay true to the efforts of the colonial planters' wives who created 'a little bit of home' in a far away land. There is no pool. The property is part of the Ceylon Tea Trails group of properties, a fine collection of four beautifully refurbished tea bungalows in one of the most idyllic corners of Sri Lanka. All the Ceylon Tea Trail properties are very highly recommended.

Accommodation
Tientsin bungalow has three types of suites: luxury rooms, garden suites and master suites, all named after former planters in the estate. The six glorious rooms and suites open onto magnificent English gardens. Each suite is faithful to the original design with polished wooden floors, high ceilings and, in some rooms, large four-poster beds.
Facilities
The graceful dining room and lounge, warmed by a blazing log fire, provide old-world relaxation. Other facilities include in-suite dining, outdoor dining, a 'Tea Spa' offering an exclusive range of tea-based treatments, a tennis court and indoor games. Rooms are sold on an all-inclusive basis, including breakfast, lunch, an afternoon cream tea, dinner (inclusive of wine), soft and non-premium alcoholic drinks.
Excursions
The Ceylon Tea Trails offers plenty of attractions for active-minded travelers including: guided trekking in the surrounding estates or Horton Plains; climbing of Adam's Peak - Sri Lanka's holiest mountain and a pilgrimage site for all four of the world's main religions. There are various Mountain Biking trails in the vicinity and watersports are also available both on the lake and in Kitulgala, the main location for whitewater rafting trips in the island. Golf enthusiasts can take a day trip to Nuwara Eliya for a round of golf on a picturesque course. A 'Tea Experience' is also offered, providing interesting insights into the growth and manufacture of tea - Sri Lanka's most famous crop.
