Shape the Story of Travel

Current Vacancy: Social Media and Marketing Manager

Location: Oxfordshire / Hybrid / Flexible

Part Time (3 days per week)

About Red Dot Tours

Red Dot is a tailor made travel company specialising in Sri Lanka, India, the Maldives, Bhutan and Nepal. Some of our team is based in our Colombo office, where a largely female team of travel consultants designs every itinerary from scratch. This is unusual in Sri Lanka, where women make up less than 10% of the tourism workforce. Our UK team works closely alongside them, and trusted partners on the ground in India, Bhutan and Nepal mean every trip is shaped by people who really know their patch.

We’ve been doing this for more than 20 years, and our trips are built around the traveller rather than pulled off a shelf. Tea estate stays in the Sri Lankan hills, family run havelis in Rajasthan, jungle lodges in Chitwan, slow days on a Maldivian atoll.

Positive travel sits at the heart of what we do. We try to use high quality but small, locally owned hotels, independent expert guides and immersive experiences, and we donate a portion of every booking to the Tea Leaf Trust, a Sri Lankan charity supporting tea estate communities through education and training. We’re proud members of the Conscious Travel Foundation.

The role

We’re looking for a Marketing and Social Media Manager with social media at the heart of what they do, but with the curiosity and range to get stuck into the wider marketing mix. You’ll lead our presence across Instagram, Facebook, TikTok, Pinterest and LinkedIn, while also supporting our PR efforts, helping design and write newsletters and blog content, working on collaborations with partners and influencers, and bringing our travel show stands to life.

We’re a small team, so this role is genuinely entrepreneurial. The right person will be hugely passionate about travel, likes rolling their sleeves up, spotting opportunities and getting things done rather than waiting to be told. It’s both creative and analytical: writing travel copy or filming a reel one day, briefing a journalist or pulling apart the numbers behind a campaign the next. It’s all hands on deck, and you’ll love that variety.

This isn’t your average marketing job either. You’ll also travel to the destinations you write about, work with people who care deeply about what we do, and join a brand that’s been quietly built over more than 20 years. We can’t compete with corporate salaries, but we can offer something more meaningful: real travel, real impact, and a job you’ll genuinely look forward to.

This is a busy, varied part time role, three days a week, working closely with our wider team in the UK and Sri Lanka. We prioritise ruthlessly: social and content are the heartbeat, with PR, partnerships and travel shows woven in across the year. We’ll work out the rhythm together.

Key responsibilities

Social media (the heart of the role)

  • Develop and deliver our social media strategy across Instagram, Facebook, TikTok, Pinterest and LinkedIn.
  • Travel to our destinations when required to produce content
  • Plan, create, schedule and post content, including photography, short form video, reels, carousels and stories.
  • Build and maintain a content calendar that reflects seasonality, trip departures and travel trends.
  • Grow engaged followings, with a particular focus on Instagram and TikTok where our audience is most active.
  • Monitor and respond to comments, DMs and tags in a tone that reflects our consultative, expert led brand. Building a community on-line is important
  • Assisting the team with paid social campaigns where appropriate, managing budget and reporting on performance.

Wider marketing

  • Support our PR efforts, helping coordinate press trips, journalist enquiries and brand storytelling.
  • Help produce our regular client newsletters using Flo Desk
  • Write travel content for the website and blog, from destination guides and itinerary inspiration to property reviews and seasonal features. We need someone who can genuinely write, not just brief.
  • Support brand collaborations and partnerships such as Citizen Femme and help bring new ones to life.
  • Design and produce our travel show stands, from concept through to delivery on the day.
  • Liaise with our in-destination teams, photographers and videographers to source authentic imagery, video and stories.

Performance and trends

  • Track activity against agreed KPIs (reach, engagement, follower growth, website traffic, enquiry attribution) and report monthly.
  • Stay on top of platform changes, emerging formats and what competitors in the luxury and tailor made travel space are doing.

About you

  • Around three years of marketing experience or more ideally in travel, hospitality or another visually led sector, with social media as a core strength.
  • Entrepreneurial by nature. You’re happy in a small team where everyone mucks in, thrive on variety, and are comfortable working across channels and disciplines, from social and content through to PR and events.
  • A strong portfolio that shows you can produce beautiful, on brand content, not just schedule it.
  • Very up to date knowledge of social media platforms, formats and trends.
  • A keen eye for design and photography, with strong attention to detail and confidence using video editing and design tools.
  • Genuine passion for immersive travel, and ideally direct experience of Sri Lanka, India, the Maldives, Bhutan or Nepal.
  • Highly organised and a genuine self-starter, able to balance long term planning with reactive day to day work. We’re a small team and need someone who can get up and running quickly, without lots of hand-holding.
  • Excellent written English, with travel writing experience a strong plus.
  • Commercially minded, seriously comfortable connecting marketing activity to enquiries and bookings.

Nice to have

  • Experience with influencer partnerships, journalists and content creator trips.
  • Working knowledge of paid social, email platforms (Flo Desk) and basic analytics (Meta Business Suite, GA4).
  • Photography or videography skills
  • Experience producing event or exhibition stands.

What we offer

We can’t match the marketing budgets or salaries of bigger agencies and corporates, but here’s what we can offer that they can’t.

  • Real travel. At least one research trip per year to one of our specialist destinations, with the likelihood of more. These are working trips with a clear purpose: gathering content, getting under the skin of the brand and what we sell, and meeting our team, partners and hotels on the ground.
  • Where possible, discounts on personal holidays to our specialist areas
  • A brand worth working on. Red Dot has been built carefully over more than 20 years, and is respected in the industry. You’ll be working with strong material and a clear voice rather than starting from scratch.
  • A team that genuinely cares. Our consultants are passionate, knowledgeable and lovely to work with. You’ll learn a huge amount about the destinations just by being around them.
  • Work that means something. Through the Tea Leaf Trust, our partnerships and our approach to positive travel, the work you do here directly supports communities in the places we send people.
  • Genuine flexibility. Three days a week, you can work from home, and the days can be spread across five if that works better for you (helpful if you’re a parent juggling school runs and childcare). We trust people to organise their time around their lives rather than the other way around.
  • Our preference would be for you to be based in Oxfordshire or Gloucestershire but we are open minded
  • Salary in the region of £25,000 for three days per week, depending on experience, plus pension and pro-rata holiday.
  • Room to grow. For someone with exceptional marketing knowledge, travel experience, travel writing credentials or the right blend of marketing and destination knowledge, we’d consider a higher salary or expanding the role to four or five days a week further down the line. If that’s you, please do still apply or contact us, we’d love to hear from you.
  • In time, this role may include some time in an office based as we grow our team, but it would never be a full time office based role - we love flexibility and believe in home-working

Who we’d love to hear from

We’re committed to building a team that reflects the diversity of the travellers we work with and the destinations we represent. We warmly welcome applications from people of all backgrounds, ethnicities, ages, gender identities, sexual orientations, religions, and from those with disabilities or caring responsibilities.

If you’re excited about this role but don’t meet every single requirement listed, please do still apply. We’re more interested in passion, potential and the right attitude than a perfect match on paper.
