Jayandi Premachandra

Sri Lanka Specialist, Colombo Office

Born and raised in Galle, Jayandi plans Sri Lanka the way you only can when it is home. Ask for her perfect morning and it is a quiet one, wandering the old Dutch streets of Galle Fort before the day wakes up. Over two years with Red Dot, and seven in travel altogether, have only proved what she has always known. This island gives its best to the people who slow down and look properly. Jayandi is a serious expert and a brilliant listener, designing trips for her clients that are deeply personal and suited to them.

The wild at its quietest

Why Wilpattu wins

Wilpattu is my favourite of the parks. It sees far fewer visitors than Yala, so I can spend hours among its villus, the natural lakes the park is built around, without passing another vehicle. For me it was never only about the leopards. Every safari feels different, and that sense of quiet and space is hard to beat.

The most remote place I have been is a small village in the hills above Hatton, deep in tea country, where people still wake before dawn to hand-pluck the leaves and cook over wood fires. The work is far harder than it looks, and it is the reason a cup of Ceylon tea means a little more to me now.

“There is no such thing as the perfect itinerary until you make it personal. That is what we do.”

What Jayandi brings to your trip

Her strength is authentic local experiences and off-the-beaten-track adventures, the trips that take people past the obvious and into the parts of Sri Lanka she knows first-hand. Jayandi is equally at home planning at the ultra-luxury end. Culture and history run through much of her work, from the Cultural Triangle to the temples and old colonial quarters. Multigenerational travel is another strength, with the pacing and practical details judged so that everyone gets their trip.

Why I love Sri Lanka

What I love most about home is how much it fits into such a small space. In a single morning you can go from an ancient temple complex to a misty tea plantation, or from a leopard sighting in Yala to a quiet afternoon on the east coast. I have travelled the country in real depth, from the Cultural Triangle through the Hill Country and down across the south and east coasts.

What sets a Red Dot trip apart

The team lives in Sri Lanka. We know the country, the hotels and the people who run them first-hand, and work hand in hand with the chauffeur guides and local hosts who shape a trip day to day. Nothing is built from a template, and because the team is on the ground, plans can shift the moment something changes or a better opportunity comes up.

Away from the desk

Outside work I am usually still travelling, seeking out a beach I have not seen or a village that does not make it onto any map. I love to cook, spend time with family and friends, and get out into nature whenever I can.
