Gangtey Lodge

Gangtey, Bhutan
Banner image image
Perched above the sweeping Gangtey Valley, Gangtey Lodge is one of Asia’s most inspirational and immersive luxury retreats, offering an unparalleled window into Bhutanese life.

The lodge’s architecture and interiors reflect Bhutanese craftsmanship and contemporary comfort in equal measure. Floor-to-ceiling windows frame the mountains, while carved wooden details, hand-painted murals and layered textiles add warmth and character. Suites feel both expansive and cocooning, with log fires, earthy tones and carefully curated furnishings creating a sense of serene indulgence. Communal spaces boast soaring wooden ceilings, intricate stonework and panoramic views that invite lingering.

Dining at Gangtey Lodge is equally mindful. Menus reinterpret Bhutanese flavours in a fresh, approachable way, served in settings that range from the vaulted timber dining room with roaring fires and woven rugs, to the terrace with valley views and mountain air, or the intimate woodshed for private meals with truly unbeatable views.

Beyond the lodge, experiences unfold at your pace: morning and evening prayers with the monks, meditation classes, restorative massages and hot stone baths, forest walks, wildlife spotting or even tree planting and private picnics. For those drawn to exploration, complimentary mountain bikes and hidden valley paths reveal quiet corners of this extraordinary landscape.

Gangtey Lodge is, quite simply, a place unlike any other, where the majesty of Bhutan meets a profound sense of stillness, beauty and cultural richness that lingers long after you leave.

What we love

    • Being welcomed into the spiritual heart of the valley, sharing moments of quiet reverence with monks, attending candlelit butter lamp ceremonies and experiencing Bhutanese traditions that are rarely accessible to outsiders.
    • The profound sense of space and stillness that defines Gangtey, whether gazing across the valley from a sun-warmed terrace, listening to temple bells drift through the pines or watching rare, black-necked cranes glide across the sky.
    • Wellness experiences that feel intrinsically tied to Bhutan itself, from restorative hot stone baths to herbal treatments inspired by ancient healing traditions, all enjoyed with uninterrupted views of one of the Himalayas’ most breathtaking landscapes.

Gangtey Lodge sits deep within a remote Himalayan valley, reached via a beautifully scenic drive along winding mountain roads. While the journey is part of the experience, weather can occasionally affect access, particularly during the monsoon months between June and September.

Mobile phone signal and Wi-Fi are available, though intentionally limited in certain areas to encourage a deeper sense of presence, reflection and connection with the surrounding landscape and culture.

Gangtey Lodge welcomes families with thoughtful ease. Generous suites are well suited to travelling together, while dining can be adapted to younger palates. Children are invited to discover the valley through guided nature walks, gentle cultural encounters and a range of engaging in-house activities. Babysitting services are available on request, allowing parents moments of uninterrupted relaxation.

Set within the heart of the Gangtey Valley, the lodge is surrounded by rolling hills, ancient monasteries and patchwork fields that change with the seasons. Located approximately 118 miles (190 km) from Paro International Airport, the journey takes around 4.5 hours and unfolds as a spectacular passage through mountain passes, rivers and forests. Despite its profound sense of seclusion, the lodge offers access to some of Bhutan’s most evocative cultural sites, including the revered Gangtey Monastery and the Phobjikha Valley, renowned as the winter sanctuary of the rare, black-necked cranes.

What our travellers say

We went to Sri Lanka as a three-generation family of three. The superb trip was organised by Samanthie and the team and it's difficult to see how it could have been bettered.

Red Dot organised the most wonderful 3-week holiday for us. Samanthie built a trip around the amazing sights we had requested visiting, together with her own suggestions and a wide mix of hotels, which gave us the flavours of both traditional Sri Lanka and the sleek, stylish contemporary version of the country. Our Driver made the whole experience incredibly special for us.

I can’t thank Cherylle and the Red Dot team enough for their meticulous planning of our family holiday to India travelling through Rajasthan over Christmas. As a family of all adults, every suggestion from daily activities to hotel choices was simply perfect. We travelled through Delhi, Ranthambore (an unforgettable tiger safari!), Jaipur and Agra and I truly feel we experienced the very best of each destination while moving at a relaxed, well thought out pace

My partner arranged a holiday trip at fairly short notice to Sri Lanka with Red Dot on a recommendation, Samanthie was so patient & helpful with her suggested itinerary which we followed with some minor amendments. On arrival at Colombo we met Manjula our chauffeur/guide who was absolutely brilliant!

Dulmini and the Red Dot Team arranged a fantastic trip for us around Assam and North East India. Faultless service. I cannot recommend them more highly.

We looked up, and communicated with umpteen tour operators. Though Red Dot seemed to have offices in Sri Lanka and the UK, they seemed to have the best reviews. We were fortunate enough to correspond with Cherylle, who not only assured us of the safety of our friend, but created a personalised, and flexible, itinerary which we could not have done ourselves.

A 14-day tour with Red Dot Tours was the perfect antidote to the bleak UK winter. After a glowing recommendation from a friend, we contacted Red Dot Tours and were not disappointed. Our consultant, Lahiru, curated a seamless itinerary. Throughout the planning phase, Lahiru was incredibly responsive; the final itinerary—delivered via a user-friendly 'Guest Portal'—was impressively detailed, covering every hotel stay and excursion.
